Southwest Harbor is a town in Hancock County, Maine, United States. Located on Mount Desert Island, the population was 1,764 at the 2010 census.
Bear Island (Maine)
Bear Island is an island located in Maine. It is one of the five islands of the Town of Cranberry Isles, Maine. The island is located just off of Northeast Harbor, Maine and south of Mount Desert Island. Bear Island Light sits on the west end of the island. It was built in 1889 and manned until 1981. The lighthouse is now a private aid to navigation and a private residence. The rest of the island has belonged to the Dunbar family since 1884.

Sutton Island, in Hancock County, Maine, is a small, private island south of Mount Desert Island, and north of Cranberry Isles, Maine. Its dimensions are roughly 2.1 km on its east-west axis by 1.1km north to south. It has a negligible permanent population, but is the site of many summer homes. The island has no roads, bridge to the mainland, nor airstrip. It is primarily accessed by mail boat from Northeast Harbor or by ferry or water taxi from Southwest Harbor, Maine.

The village was at a time so popular as a summer resort among Philadelphians that it was sometimes known as "Philadelphia on the rocks".

The Asticou Azalea Garden in Northeast Harbor, Maine, United States, is a popular visitor attraction. It was created by lifelong resident of the village, Charles Kenneth Savage, in 1956. Savage also created Reef Point Estate in nearby Bar Harbor. It was from Reef Point that several specimens, with the financial assistance of John D. Rockefeller, Jr. , were moved, including the weeping hemlock, just north of the main bridge.

The Southwest Harbor Public Library is the public library serving Southwest Harbor, Maine. The Southwest Harbor Public Library was built in 1895. On March 17, 1888 the Tremont Public Library Association was formed for the purpose of looking after books and raising funds for a permanent building. The Association’s name was changed to the "Southwest Harbor Public Library. " In 1893 the Library Association bought the lot of land where the library building now stands for $100.
