Daviess County, Kentucky
Daviess County (pronounced /'deɪvɨs/, sometimes incorrectly /'deɪviz/), is a county in the U.S. state of Kentucky. It is the 58th county in order of formation; formed from part of Ohio County on January 14, 1815. The county's borders were altered in 1829 to form Hancock County, in 1830 to absorb a small area surrounding Whitesville, in 1854 to cede land to McLean County, and in 1860 to annex 44 square miles from Henderson County.

Owensboro is the fourth largest city by population in the U.S. state of Kentucky. It is the county seat of Daviess County. It is located on U.S. Route 60 about 32 miles southeast of Evansville, Indiana, and is the principal city of the Owensboro, Kentucky, Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city's population was 57,265 at the 2010 U.S. Census, with a metropolitan population of 114,752. The city was named after Colonel Abraham Owen.

Roman Catholic Diocese of Owensboro
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Owensboro is a Roman Catholic diocese in Kentucky. It was founded on December 9, 1937. It is currently a suffragan see of the Archdiocese of Louisville. The bishop, William Medley, was the pastor of Saint Bernadette Parish of the Archdiocese of Louisville prior to his ordination which took place February 10, 2010. Its cathedral in Owensboro is named after St. Stephen, the first martyr of the Christian church.

Daviess County High School is a school in Owensboro, Kentucky. It is one of the largest schools in the area with roughly 1750 students. It is part of the Daviess County Public Schools system. Its sister school is Apollo High School which is also its biggest rival in sports and academics. The Big Red Machine (BRM) is the student newspaper, and is published bi-weekly. Daviess County Middle School and College View Middle School feed into Daviess County High School.

Yellow Banks, Kentucky
Yellow Banks, Kentucky was the name of the rustic community founded by pionersman William Smeathers (Smothers) around 1790 on the banks of the Ohio River. The name was derived from the yellowish colored banks along the river. In 1817, Yellow Banks was incorporated as a city under the name Owensborough, named after Colonel Abraham Owen. He was also the namesake of Owen County, Kentucky. In 1893, the spelling of the name was shortened to its current Owensboro.
