Ridgeside is a city in Hamilton County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 389 at the 2000 census. Ridgeside is an enclave; its area is completely surrounded by the jurisidiction of Chattanooga. It is part of the Chattanooga, TN–GA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Ridgeside's name is derived from its location on the eastern slope (side) of Missionary Ridge. Locally, the city is also known as Shepherd Hills.

Arthur MacArthur, Jr

Lieutenant General Arthur MacArthur, Jr. (June 2, 1845 – September 5, 1912), was a United States Army General. He became the military Governor-General of the American-occupied Philippines in 1900 but his term ended a year later due to clashes with the civilian governor, future President William Howard Taft. Battle of Missionary Ridge

The Battle of Missionary Ridge was fought November 25, 1863, as part of the Chattanooga Campaign of the American Civil War. Following the Union victory in the Battle of Lookout Mountain on November 24, Union forces under Maj. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant assaulted Missionary Ridge and defeated the Confederate Army of Tennessee, commanded by Gen. Braxton Bragg. In the morning, elements of the Army of the Tennessee commanded by Maj. Gen. Jones Observatory

Clarence T. Jones Observatory is an astronomical observatory owned and operated by University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. It is located in Chattanooga, Tennessee (USA). The building was completed in 1936, and opened in 1938. Construction of the observatory and telescope were funded by a Public Works Administration grant for the students of Chattanooga's public schools at the urging of prominent local astronomer Clarence T. Jones.

Brainerd Mission

The Brainerd Mission was a Christian mission to the Cherokee in Chattanooga, Tennessee. It was established by the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions in 1817 and named after David Brainerd. It ended with the Cherokee removal in 1838. People such as Ainsworth Blunt and Cephas Washburn worked at this mission. The Brainerd Mission Cemetery is one of the oldest in Hamilton County and consists of 60 graves, most of which are of missionary workers among the Cherokee.
