Battle of Bloody Marsh

Gascoigne Bluff

Gascoigne Bluff is a bluff next to the Frederica River on the western side of the island of St. Simons which was a Native American campground, the site of a Franciscan monastery named San Buenaventura, and the site of the Province of Georgia's first naval base. Glynco, Georgia

Glynco is an area in Glynn County, Georgia located on the northwestern edge of Brunswick, GA. Glynco is a contraction of the words "Glynn County". In 1942 the Naval Air Station Glynco was established on the area now known as Glynco. After the area was no longer used for the Naval Air station (1974), 2,003 acres of the land was used for the Brunswick Golden Isles Airport and 1,500 acres of it for a branch of Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC).

Located on St. Simons Island, it is also known McKinnon St. Simons Island Airport. It was named for Malcom B. McKinnon, chairman of the County Commission when construction started in 1935. The airport opened on May 28, 1938, seven months after his death.

East Beach Station

East Beach Station is a station of the U.S. Coast Guard in St. Simons, Georgia. It was built in 1933 as a part of the Works Progress Administration initiated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The Coast Guard Station played a part in World War II when it helped save the passengers of two merchant ships, the SS Oklahoma and the Esso Baton Rouge. These two ships were torpedoed by a German submarine U-123.
