South Lake Tahoe is the most populous city in El Dorado County, California, United States, in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The population was 21,403 at the 2010 census, down from 23,609 at the 2000 census. The east end of the city, on the California-Nevada state line, is mainly geared towards tourism, with T-shirt shops, restaurants, hotels, and Heavenly Mountain Resort with the Nevada casinos just across the state line in Stateline, Nevada.

Fannette Island

Fannette Island is the only island in Lake Tahoe, California/Nevada, United States. It lies within Emerald Bay. Over a long period of time, it was called many different names, including Coquette, Fanette, Baranoff, Dead Man's, Hermit's, and Emerald Isle. The island contains what is left of "Tea House", a building constructed by the owner of Vikingsholm, Mrs. Lora Josephine Knight. Fannette Island, along with Vikingsholm and Emerald Bay, is a part of Emerald Bay State Park.

Fallen Leaf Lake (California)

Fallen Leaf Lake is about one mile south of the much larger Lake Tahoe, near the California-Nevada state border. It is approximately aligned north-to-south and oval in shape, measuring approximately 2.9 miles (4.6 km) on the long axis and 0.9 miles (1.4 km) on the short axis. The lake was created by at least two glaciers which traveled northward down the Glen Alpine Valley. If the glacier had continued instead of stopping, Fallen Leaf Lake would be a bay similar to nearby Emerald Bay.

Lake Tahoe Airport is a public airport three miles southwest of South Lake Tahoe, in El Dorado County, California, USA. This general aviation airport covers 348 acres and has one runway. The airport is sometimes called Tahoe Valley Airport. Mount Tallac

Mount Tallac is a mountain peak southwest of Lake Tahoe, in El Dorado County, California. The peak lies within the Desolation Wilderness on the Eldorado National Forest. It is quite visible from State Route 89. A "cross of snow" is clearly visible on the mountain's face during the winter and spring months. Of the several trails leading to the summit, the Mount Tallac trailhead is the most-frequented.

Angora Lakes

The Angora Lakes are two small freshwater lakes in the Sierra Nevada and Lake Tahoe Watershed ~1,200 ft in elevation above Fallen Leaf Lake and Lake Tahoe. It is the location of the Angora Lakes Resort, a small summer outdoor recreation location. The lakes were named for a herd of Angora goats that used to graze in the area. To reach Angora Lakes from Hwy 89, take the Fallen Leaf Lake Rd. turnoff for approximately 2 miles .

Angora Fire

The Angora Fire was a wind driven fire that started near North Upper Truckee Road subdivision near Angora Lakes, Fallen Leaf Lake, Echo Lake and South Lake Tahoe, California around 2:15 PM on Sunday, June 24, 2007 as a result of an illegal campfire. As of July 2, 2007, the fire was 100% contained, and 100% control (all interior fires extinguished) was achieved on July 10. The fire burned 3,100 acres (12.5 km²), destroyed 242 residences and 67 commercial structures, and damaged 35 other homes.

Built in the 1960s, the community consists of over 1500 homes adjacent to a series of canals. Its construction destroyed half of the Upper Truckee Marsh, the primary filter for river water entering the lake, and has since been called the most environmentally damaging intrusion on lakeshore in Lake Tahoe's human history.
