Tunghai University
Tunghai University was founded by Methodist missionaries in 1955 as a comprehensive university. Moreover, Tunghai University was founded as the first private university making it the second oldest university in Taiwan, which earned the school its fame and reputation. The university is located on the western side of Taichung, Taiwan, an urbanized area. On the grounds, Luce Memorial Chapel (designed by noted architect I. M. Pei) is a local landmark.

The Luce Memorial Chapel is a Christian chapel on the campus of Tunghai University, Taichung, Taiwan. It was designed by the architect and artist Chen Chi-Kwan in collaboration with the firm of noted architect I. M. Pei, and named in honor of the Rev. Henry W. Luce, an American missionary in China in the late 19th century and father of publisher Henry Luce. The project was originally planned in April 1954 but put on hold until July 1960.

The estimated area of the structure is 57,685 square metres with 2,011 seats. It was designed by Japanese architect Toyo Ito. It was contracted on 11 November 2009 with construction planned for 45 months, and is estimated to be finished in December 2013.
