Antigonia (Paeonia)

Demir Kapija is a town in the Republic of Macedonia, located near the ominous limestone gates of the same name. It has 3,725 inhabitants. The town is the seat of Demir Kapija Municipality.

Čelevec
Čelevec is a small village in the western part of the Demir Kapija municipality of the Republic of Macedonia. It mostly consists of Turkish inhabitants. The people are very traditional and the village itself is located in a beautiful wooded area between the mountains. To get here, you can walk along the river at the stopping point between the two tunnels on the main highway to Gevgelija that lead into the canyon.
Barovo
Barovo is in the southern region of the Demir Kapija municipality. It is a point on many searchable satellite or internet maps. Barovo is settled in a wooded area, rather isolated on a road to the south of the town of Demir Kapija past the church. Barovo is the second inhabited village on this road to Konopiste. The village church, built in 1908 unfortunately has fallen due to lack of inhabitants to care for it.
Besvica
Besvica is in the southeast of the Republic of Macedonia. It is an isolated village in the southern part of the Demir Kapija Municipality. The road from the Demir Kapija church south to the village of Konopiste was part of a system of roads in the days of the Turkish and improved by the French after World War I. Besvica is the first village past Demir Kapija on this road to Konopiste and the Kozuf mountain.
Bistrenci
Bistrenci is one of the larger villages in Demir Kapija municipality. Its population is mixed among Turks, ethnic Macedonians, Albanian, and Vlach. It has been has its roots in the Ottoman period until the Slovenes came to harvest grapes. The Catholic church was then built. Many Turkish stayed and still live in the village to this day. The Slovenes stayed until World War II, and the Macedonians inhabited the village afterwards and erected an Orthodox community.
Dren, Demir Kapija
Dren is a small village in the municipality of Demir Kapija. It is located in the western part of the Municipality near the Dosnica river power plant facility. It operates a fish hatchery and a modern egg farm. The holiday of the Patron Saint, coined Panagjur, is very popular where many people gather in the village to visit its inhabitants and celebrate on August 25.
Iberli
Ibirlija is a small Turkish village past the village Celevec in the eastern mountain valley of the municipality. It is practically deserted, as no more than a handful of people still have a house there. Most residents now live in Chelevec or a more recent, as yet, unofficial village of the Municipality, Laki. Laki is just off the main highway, and recently, electricity was brought to this village. Ibirlija is farther along the river, which shares its name.
Klisura (Republic of Macedonia)
Klisura is the oldest village in the municipality of Demir Kapija in the Republic of Macedonia. It was along the Vardar river but moved into the mountains to be away from the main road in the mid 19th century. Many current Demir Kapija residents came to develop the town and municipality during socialism, one of Tito's plans for the modernization and industrialization of his Yugoslavia. Klisura was at its highest population of over 600 residents just after World War I.
