Phoenix Park

Phoenix Park (Irish: Páirc an Fhionnuisce) is an urban park in Dublin, Ireland, lying 2–4 km west of the city centre, north of the River Liffey. Its 11 km perimeter wall encloses 707 hectares, one of the largest walled city parks in Europe. It includes large areas of grassland and tree-lined avenues, and since the seventeenth century has been home to a herd of wild Fallow deer. The English name comes from the Irish fionn uisce meaning "clear water".

Dunsink Observatory

The Dunsink Observatory is an astronomical observatory established in 1785 in the townland of Dunsink near the city of Dublin, Ireland. Its most famous director was William Rowan Hamilton, who, amongst other things, discovered quaternions, the first non-commutative algebra, while strolling from the observatory into the centre of the city with some friends and his wife. He is also renowned for his Hamiltonian formulation of dynamics.

Shandon is a small collection of roads on Dublin's Northside within the district of Phibsboro. It consists of 3 terraces of Edwardian houses along the banks of the Royal Canal. Built around 1926. Ashtown (Irish: Baile an Áisigh) is a townland in the civil parish of Castleknock on the Northside of Dublin. It is bounded roughly by the townlands of Castleknock to the west, Cabra to the east and by Finglas to the north. It is situated by the Royal Canal, near the N3 Navan Road. The Phoenix Park is also nearby, its Ashtown Gate entrance about 500 metres south of the railway station.

Broombridge railway station

Broombridge is a railway station serving Cabra, Dublin 7, Ireland. It lies on the southern bank of the Royal Canal at the western end of what had been Liffey Junction station on the erstwhile Midland Great Western Railway. It takes its name from Broome Bridge, which crosses the canal, a place best known as where William Rowan Hamilton discovered the mathematical notion of quaternions. A plaque on the adjacent canal bridge commemorates this.

Ashtown Castle

Ashtown Castle (Irish Caisleán Bhaile an Ásaighis) a fortified house in the Phoenix Park in Dublin. It was found hidden within the walls of a much larger and more recent building that was being used by the Papal Nuncio until 1978. At that time, the more recent and larger building was deemed structurally irreparable due to dry rot. But as that was being demolished, Ashtown castle was discovered. It has now been restored and forms part of the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre.

Liffey Junction

Liffey Junction is a former railway station and junction on the erstwhile Midland Great Western Railway in Dublin, Ireland. The station opened in 1864 upon the opening of the Liffey Line from this point to the River Liffey at the North Wall, Dublin. The station closed to passenger traffic in 1937 upon the concurrent closure of the line from Broadstone to Liffey Junction, such traffic being rerouted to Pearse Station (then Westland Row).
