Nassau is the capital, largest city, and commercial centre of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. The city has a population of 248,948, 70 percent of the entire population of The Bahamas (353,658). Lynden Pindling International Airport, the major airport for The Bahamas, is located about 16 kilometres west of Nassau city centre, and has daily flights to major cities in the United States, the Caribbean, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

New Providence

New Providence is the most populous island in the Bahamas, containing more than 70% of the total population. It also houses the national capital city, Nassau. The island was originally under Spanish control following Christopher Columbus' discovery of the New World, but the Spanish government showed little interest in developing the island (and the Bahamas as a whole). Nassau, the island's largest city, was formally known as Charlestown.

Paradise Island

Paradise Island is an island in the Bahamas formerly known as Hog Island. The island, with an area of 685 acres (1.1 sq mi/2.8 km), is located just off the shore of the city of Nassau, which is itself located on the northern edge of the island of New Providence. It is best known for the sprawling resort Atlantis. Paradise Island is connected to the island of New Providence by two bridges that cross Nassau Harbour.

Battle of Nassau

The Battle of Nassau (March 3–4, 1776) was a naval action and amphibious assault by American forces against the British port of Nassau, Bahamas, during the American Revolutionary War (also known as the American War of Independence). It is considered the first cruise and one of the first engagements of the newly established Continental Navy and the Continental Marines, the progenitors of the United States Navy and Marine Corps. The action was also the Marines' first amphibious landing.

Government House, The Bahamas

Government House is the official residence of the Governor General of the Bahamas. Built on a hill known as Mount Fitzwilliam and completed in 1806, this imposing stuccoed-coral-rock building on Duke Street is the Bahamian archipelago's foremost example of Georgian Colonial architecture. In 1814, Colonel Don Antonio de Alcedo, a Spanish scholar and soldier, wrote admiringly of its effect.

Thomas Robinson Stadium

Thomas Robinson Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Nassau, Bahamas. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium currently has a capacity of 15,000 people, but has the ability to be expanded to hold 30,000 people. The stadium is named after Thomas A. "Tom" Robinson, a former track and field star that represented the Bahamas at several Olympic Games.

Atlantis Paradise Island

The Atlantis Paradise Island is a resort and waterpark located on Paradise Island, The Bahamas. Officially opened in 1998, the resort was created by South African hotel magnate Sol Kerzner and Kerzner International Limited. Paradise Island first opened its Coral and Beach Towers as the Trump Plaza, then changed its name to Atlantis when the Royal Towers were built. The Coral and Beach Towers were later refurbished to match the theme of the Royal Towers.

Dolphin Encounters

Dolphin Encounters is a natural seawater dolphin facility located on Blue Lagoon Island, (Salt Cay), Nassau, Bahamas. The company started as a rescue facility in 1989. The beach scenes in the movie Splash were taped on Blue Lagoon Island and the facility houses Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, and California sea lions. Dolphin Encounters is owned and operated by a local family. The facility has received a Cacique Award from the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.

The Cove Atlantis

The Cove Atlantis is an all-suite hotel at the Atlantis Paradise Island resort. Rose Island, Bahamas

Rose Island is a small island in the Bahamas that lies 3 miles east of Paradise Island, which lies directly off of New Providence Island. The island has no formal residential infrastructure and no roads. The island is used as a station for trained dolphin encounters, and there are docks for this purpose on a inland cove which is accessed by the sea. The largest mass of the island is made up of a shallow inland lagoon in the center of the island. The highest elevation on the island is 52 feet.

Fort Charlotte is a British-colonial era fort built on a hill over-looking the harbor of Nassau, The Bahamas. The fort sits a short walk west of downtown Nassau and the cruise ship terminal. Baha Mar

Baha Mar is a resort under construction on the island of New Providence in the Bahamas, owned by Baha Mar Resorts Ltd. and managed by CEO Sarkis Izmirlian. Planned amenities include four hotels with 2,200 rooms, 307 private residences, a 9,300-square-metre casino, and a golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus. Capture of the Bahamas (1783)

The Capture of the Bahamas took place in April 1783, late in the American War of Independence, when a Loyalist expedition under the command of Andrew Deveaux set out to retake the Bahamas from the Spanish. The expedition was successful and Nassau fell without a shot being fired. It was one of the last actions of the entire war.

Raid on Nassau

The Raid on Nassau was a privately raised Franco-Spanish expedition during the War of the Spanish Succession led by Blas Moreno Mondragón and Clause Le Chesnaye. The joint bourbon invaders attacked Nassau, the capital of the English Bahamas at the time and an important base of privateering for English corsairs aiming to end privateering actions in the Cuban and Saint Domingue's Caribbean seas. The town of Nassau was quickly taken and sacked, plundered and burnt down.
