Tapping was chosen as the suburb name in honour of an early settler family in the Wanneroo area. Mr William Tapping arrived in 1886 and Molly and Dolly Tapping were long time Postmistresses in Wanneroo. The name for the suburb was approved in 1997.

It covers the metropolitan Perth city of Joondalup in its entirety, as well as the town centres of Hillarys and Warwick. The City covers an area of 98.9 square kilometres from Kinross in the north, to Warwick in the south, with a population of about 150,000 at the 2006 census.
Joondalup Drive
Joondalup Drive is a major distributor road in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. The road cuts through the City of Joondalup's central business district and extends for a few kilometres east through neighbouring residential suburbs in the City of Wanneroo. The road was extended in 2005 to the northern suburb of Banksia Grove to provide easy access for residents to Joondalup's city centre, and to provide a complete connecting route to the Brand Highway from the Mitchell Freeway.

Arena Joondalup
Arena Joondalup is a multi-purpose stadium sport, recreation and aquatic centre located in Joondalup, Western Australia. It is located on 35 ha of parkland approximately 25 km north of Perth. It was officially opened in 1994. An $11 million indoor aquatic centre, including a 50 m 10-lane competition pool, was completed in 2000 as part of the Arena Joondalup complex.

Barbagallo Raceway
Barbagallo Raceway is a motorsport circuit located in Wanneroo, approximately 50 kilometres north of Perth in Western Australia. The circuit was originally known as Wanneroo Park and the first race meet took place in March 1969. Initially the major race per year was a 6 hour Le Mans style race for sedans and sports cars known as the Six Hour Le Mans. However as interest dulled in that event, production car racing took over as the major race type.

Yellagonga Regional Park
Yellagonga Regional Park is in Perth, Western Australia, in the City of Wanneroo and the City of Joondalup. The park was established in 1989 by the Western Australian government and protects 1,400 hectares of land, including 550 hectares of wetlands – Lake Joondalup, Beenup Swamp, Walluburnup Swamp and Lake Goollelal. The park contains heritage buildings, including Perry's Cottage, Cockman House and Luisini Winery, and recreation areas such as Neil Hawkins Park.
Neerabup Power Station
Neerabup Power Station is a power station in Neerabup, on the northern outskirts of Perth, Western Australia nearby the locality of Pinjar and the Pinjar Power Station. It is powered by natural gas, and has a total electrical generation capacity of 330 MW. The station was commissioned in October 2009.
