It was built in the late 1980s as a golf course estate. Its eastern border backs onto the Mitchell Freeway road reserve. Many homes feature on the edges of Connolly but the homes bordering the golf course are generally larger and more affluent. The suburb was named in honour of John Connolly who held land in the area in 1838.

Joondalup Drive
Joondalup Drive is a major distributor road in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. The road cuts through the City of Joondalup's central business district and extends for a few kilometres east through neighbouring residential suburbs in the City of Wanneroo. The road was extended in 2005 to the northern suburb of Banksia Grove to provide easy access for residents to Joondalup's city centre, and to provide a complete connecting route to the Brand Highway from the Mitchell Freeway.

Arena Joondalup
Arena Joondalup is a multi-purpose stadium sport, recreation and aquatic centre located in Joondalup, Western Australia. It is located on 35 ha of parkland approximately 25 km north of Perth. It was officially opened in 1994. An $11 million indoor aquatic centre, including a 50 m 10-lane competition pool, was completed in 2000 as part of the Arena Joondalup complex.
Grand Boulevard, Joondalup
Grand Boulevard is the main street of Joondalup, a regional centre 26 kilometres north of Perth, Western Australia. It was originally built in 1989 as the main axis road for the new Joondalup central business district.
Shenton Avenue
Shenton Avenue is an east-west distributor road in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Joondalup. The road primarily links Joondalup's coastal suburbs with the Joondalup central business district, which it passes through. It is also an entrance to the Mitchell Freeway. A portion of Shenton Avenue passes through the main centre of the city of Joondalup, providing quick access to Lakeside Joondalup Shopping City and Joondalup Health Campus.
Hodges Drive
Hodges Drive is a main west-east road in Joondalup, north of Perth, Western Australia. It begins in the suburb of Ocean Reef at a T-junction with Ocean Reef Road and runs through the residential areas in Ocean Reef, Connolly and Heathridge, before terminating at Joondalup Drive. The road continues from there as Grand Boulevard. Hodges Drive is a two lane dual-carriageway for most of its length, and changes to a two way road west of Marmion Avenue.

Ocean Reef Senior High School is a co-educational state high school located in Ocean Reef, 27 kilometres north of Perth, Western Australia. Opening in 1983, the school's catchment area covers the northwestern part of the City of Joondalup and, as at Semester 1, 2011, the school has an enrolment of 1,217 students between Year 8 and Year 12.
Connolly Drive
Connolly Drive is an arterial road in the outer northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia. The road takes its name from the Perth suburb of Connolly, which lies just beyond the road's terminus. The road extends northerly from Shenton Avenue in Currambine, west of Joondalup's central business district, to the outer suburb of Butler. Connolly Drive runs parallel with the busier Marmion Avenue and eases its traffic flow past the end of the Mitchell Freeway at Burns Beach Road.
Yellagonga Regional Park
Yellagonga Regional Park is in Perth, Western Australia, in the City of Wanneroo and the City of Joondalup. The park was established in 1989 by the Western Australian government and protects 1,400 hectares of land, including 550 hectares of wetlands – Lake Joondalup, Beenup Swamp, Walluburnup Swamp and Lake Goollelal. The park contains heritage buildings, including Perry's Cottage, Cockman House and Luisini Winery, and recreation areas such as Neil Hawkins Park.
