Ho Chi Minh City
Ho Chi Minh City (Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh), formerly named Saigon, is the largest city in Vietnam. Under the name Saigon, it was the capital of the French colony of Cochin-china and later of the independent republic of South Vietnam from 1955–75. South Vietnam, as an anti-communist, capitalist republic, fought against the communist North Vietnamese and Viet Cong during the Vietnam War, with aid from the United States and countries including Australia, New Zealand and South Korea.

Chí Hòa Prison is a functioning Vietnamese prison located in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The prison is an octagonal building on a 7-hectare site consisting of detention rooms, jail cells, prison walls, watchtowers, facilities and prisoner's farmlands. The prison is one of 12 national prisons in Vietnam. Originally built by the French Indochina colonial government in 1943 (or 1939) to replace the Saigon Grand Prison, the prison was extensively used by all succeeding governments of Vietnam.

An Quang Pagoda in Master Van Hanh Street is a meeting place for Vietnamese Buddhist leaders in Ho Chi Minh City and is a site of the Institute for Dharma Propagation. It has been at the focus of development of modern Vietnamese Buddhism as the seat of the School of Buddhist Studies and the headquarters of the Unified Buddhist Church of Vietnam. Since its founding in 1948, its buildings have been expanded in number and size; they now include a library and a publishing house.
Thong Nhat Stadium
Thống Nhất Stadium ("Reunification Stadium") is a multi-purpose stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. It is located at 138 Đào Duy Từ Street, Ward 6, District 10. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium for Sài Gòn Xuân Thành and Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh of the Vietnamese Second Division. The stadium has a capacity to seat 25,000 people.

Le Hong Phong High School
Lê Hồng Phong High School for the Gifted (Vietnamese: Trường Phổ Thông Trung Học Chuyên Lê Hồng Phong; formerly known as Petrus Ký High School) is a highly selective high school in Hồ Chí Minh City, Vietnam. Established in 1927, the school is one of the oldest high schools still operating in Vietnam. The school is specialized for gifted students who show their exceptional talents in the Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and Humanities.
Phu Tho Horse Racing Ground
Phu Tho Horse Racing Ground is the only place in Ho Chi Minh City and in Vietnam that organizes horse racing. The racing ground was founded by the French colonists during French Indochina. It is situated in District 11, Ho Chi Minh City. It was the location of a major battle between the Viet Cong and the Army of the Republic of Vietnam during the Tet Offensive. Phu Tho racecourse was built by the French in 1932 with an area of 444,540 m2.
1964 Brinks Hotel bombing
The Brink Hotel in Saigon, also known as the Brink Bachelor Officers Quarters (BOQ), was bombed by the Viet Cong on the evening of December 24, 1964, during the Vietnam War. Two Viet Cong operatives detonated a car bomb underneath the hotel, which housed United States Army officers. The explosion killed two Americans, an officer and an NCO, and injured approximately 60, including military personnel and Vietnamese civilians.
1963 South Vietnamese coup
In November 1963, President Ngô Đình Diệm of South Vietnam was deposed by a group of Army of the Republic of Vietnam officers who disagreed with his handling of both the Buddhist crisis and the Vietcong threat. The Kennedy administration had been aware of the coup planning, but Cable 243 from the United States Department of State to U.S. Ambassador to South Vietnam Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr. , stated that it was U.S. policy not to try to stop it.

Thien Hau Temple, Ho Chi Minh City
Chùa Bà Thiên Hậu (The Pagoda of the Lady Thien Hau) is a Chinese style temple located on Nguyen Trai Street in the Cho Lon (Chinatown) district of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. It is dedicated to Thiên Hậu, the Lady of the Sea ("Tian Hou" as transcribed from the Chinese), who is also known as "Mazu".
