St. Louis Arsenal

The St. Louis Arsenal is a large complex of military weapons and ammunition storage buildings owned by the United States Army in St. Louis, Missouri. During the American Civil War, the St. Louis arsenal's contents were seized and removed to Illinois by Union Captain Nathaniel Lyon, an act that helped fuel tension between secessionists and those citizens loyal to the Federal government.

Soulard, St. Louis

Soulard (soo-lard) is a historic French neighborhood in St. Louis, Missouri. It is named after Antoine Soulard, who first began to develop the land. Soulard was a surveyor for the Spanish government and a refugee from the French Revolution in the 1790s. It is a picturesque, residential neighborhood filled with restaurants, bars, and pubs, among other businesses and is one of the oldest communities in the city.

Lift For Life Academy

Lift For Life Academy is a middle and high school founded in 1998 by Marshall Cohen. It was the first charter school in St. Louis, Missouri. The idea for the Academy grew out of Cohen's other nonprofit organization, Lift For Life Gym which was once a garage, an after-school center for at-risk children located on the north side of St. Louis, 14th & Cass.

Lafayette Square, St. Louis

Lafayette Square is a neighborhood in St. Louis, Missouri that is bounded on the north by Chouteau Avenue, on the south by Interstate 44, on the east by Truman Parkway and on the west by South Jefferson Avenue. Gus' Pretzels is a pretzel bakery and snack counter in the Benton Park neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri, United States. It opened in 1920, located at 1820 Arsenal Street near the Anheuser-Busch brewery. Gus' is a third generation family business. They hand-make pretzels in an open kitchen near where they are sold with dips and condiments such as mustard and cheese sauces. Fresh pretzels are emblematic of the German American culture and community that have been prominent in St Louis.

Benton Park, St. Louis

Benton Park is a neighborhood in eastern St. Louis, Missouri, just west of the Soulard neighborhood. The official boundaries of the area are Gravois Avenue on the north, Cherokee Street on the south, I-55 on the east, and Jefferson Avenue on the west. Not to be confused with Benton Place, the first private street in America located in Lafayette Square, home to some of the finest families of St. Louis history.
