City of Whyalla
The City Of Whyalla is a local government area in South Australia, located at the top of the Eyre Peninsula. The council was established in 1970, replacing the town commission, which had been running the town previously. The district is mostly industrial, with many large companies having factories in the city.
Whyalla High School
Whyalla High School was the first high school built in Whyalla. It was built by BHP in 1943, as a Technical school for BHP’s apprentices to be educated in. The school catered for year 8 to year 12. There were 113 students who were originally enrolled at the school. In 1965-1966 temporary buildings (portables) were put up to hold the extra students, in 1966 there was 1,284 students at Whyalla Technical High School, in 1965 there was 1,480 students enrolled.
Edward John Eyre High School
Located in Grundel Street Whyalla, South Australia, Edward John Eyre High School opened in 1968 as Eyre Technical High School. Built during the boom period, student enrolment reached around 1500 in the 1970s. Today, Edward John Eyre High School, also known as Senior Secondary Campus of the Whyalla Secondary College, has a student population of over 400. Eyre High School caters to a wide cross-section of the community. Its Young Mum's program supports young mothers to complete their education.
Cultana, South Australia
The Hundred of Cultana is a cadastral unit of hundred on the Eyre Peninsula of South Australia in the local government area of the City of Whyalla. It is one of the seven hundreds of the County of York, and was proclaimed in 1940 by Governor Barclay-Harvey.
