Werris Creek, New South Wales
Werris Creek is a small town in New South Wales, Australia, near Tamworth, in Liverpool Plains Shire. It is north of Quirindi and is at the junction of the Main North railway line to Armidale and Moree. At the 2006 census, Werris Creek had a population of 1,490.
Werris Creek railway station
Werris Creek Railway Station opened at Werris Creek, New South Wales in 1878, and was moved to its present location in 1880. The heritage listed Werris Creek railway station building, built in the late 1880s, was designed by John Whitton, the Engineer-in-Charge for the New South Wales Railways. For approximately 70 years Werris Creek was the largest railway centre in the north of NSW. At its peak in the mid 20th century it incorporated extensive facilities.
