The Second Battle of Independence was a minor engagement of the American Civil War October 21–22, 1864 centered in Independence, Missouri, with some of the fiercest fighting taking place at the present-day United Nations Peace Plaza; the "Harry Truman" Railroad Depot; George Caleb Bingham's residence in the city, the Community of Christ church's Temple, Auditorium and "Stone Church"; and the headquarters of the Church of Christ (Temple Lot).

Charles Daniel Neff (24 March 1922–16 July 1991) was a missionary who had a great impact on the mission and theology of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He also founded the humanitarian agency Outreach International and the Community One Resources Development Inc. also known as CORD.
Stone Church (Independence, Missouri)
The Community of Christ Stone Church (known from 1888-2000 as the RLDS Stone Church) is a church building in Independence, Missouri at 1012 W. Lexington, north across the street from the Church of Christ (Temple Lot) headquarters building and diagonally opposite the Community of Christ Temple. The Church began construction on the site in 1884, and the completed building was dedicated on April 6, 1888. For years, the Stone Church was the headquarters building of the RLDS church.

The Independence Amtrak station, also known as Missouri Pacific Depot, is a train station in Independence, Missouri, United States served by Amtrak, the national railroad passenger system. The station was originally built in 1913 by the Missouri Pacific Railroad, and is also known as the "Truman Depot," because it was the final stop in Harry S. Truman's 1948 Whistlestop Campaign where 8,500 admirers welcomed Truman in January 1953 when he returned home after leaving office.
