Ottawa is a city situated along the Marais des Cygnes River in the central part of Franklin County, located in east-central Kansas, 50 miles southwest of Kansas City, Kansas, in the central United States. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 12,649. It is the county seat and most populous city of Franklin County. Ottawa is included in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area.

The trail runs 50 miles from its northern terminus at Ottawa, Kansas to its southern terminus at Iola, Kansas. The trail is open for use by hikers, joggers, and cyclists year-round, from sunrise to sunset.

Peoples Bank Field
Peoples Bank Field, formerly known as Cook Field, is a sport stadium in Ottawa, Kansas. The facility is primarily used by the Ottawa University football, soccer, and track & field teams. The field turf was added in 2007 and the facility is considered one of the best of its kind in the United States for small college football.
