French Quarter
The French Quarter, also known as the Vieux Carré, is the oldest neighborhood in the city of New Orleans. When New Orleans (La Nouvelle-Orléans in French) was founded in 1718 by Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville, the city was originally centered on the French Quarter, or the Vieux Carré ("Old Square" in French) as it was known then. While the area is still referred to as the Vieux Carré by some, it is more commonly known as the French Quarter today, or simply "The Quarter.
Faubourg Marigny
Faubourg Marigny (recently being referred to by new residents as The Marigny) is a neighborhood of the city of New Orleans. A subdistrict of the Bywater District Area, its boundaries as defined by the City Planning Commission are: North Rampart Street and St. Claude Avenue to the north, Franklin Avenue to the east, the Mississippi River to the south and Esplanade Avenue to the west.
Café du Monde
Café du Monde is a coffee shop on Decatur Street in the French Quarter in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is best known for its café au lait and its French-style beignets. In the New Orleans style, the coffee is blended with chicory. The location at the lower end of the French Market was established in 1862.
Bourbon Street
Bourbon Street (French: Rue du Bourbon) is a street in the heart of New Orleans' oldest neighborhood, the French Quarter in New Orleans, Louisiana. It extends 13 blocks from Canal Street to Esplanade Avenue. While it is now primarily known for its bars and strip clubs, Bourbon Street's history provides a rich insight into New Orleans' past.
Bywater, New Orleans
Bywater is a neighborhood of the city of New Orleans. A subdistrict of the Bywater District Area, its boundaries as defined by the City Planning Commission are: Florida Avenue to the north, the Industrial Canal to the east, the Mississippi River to the south and Franklin Avenue Street to the west. Bywater is part of the Ninth Ward of New Orleans, but is located along the natural levee of the Mississippi River, sparing the area from significant flooding.

St. Louis Cathedral (New Orleans)
The Cathedral-Basilica of Saint Louis, King of France, also called St. Louis Cathedral, is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans; it has the distinction of being the oldest continuously operating cathedral in the (as now constituted) United States. The first church on the site was built in 1718; the third, built in 1789, was raised to cathedral rank in 1793. The cathedral was expanded and largely rebuilt in 1850, with little of the 1789 structure remaining.
Central Grocery
Central Grocery is a small, old-fashioned Italian-American grocery store with a sandwich counter located at 923 Decatur Street, in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. It was founded in 1906 by Salvatore Lupo, a Sicilian immigrant. He operated it until 1946 when he retired and his son-in-law Frank Tusa took over the operation. Today it is owned by Salvador T. Tusa, Salvatore's grandson, and two cousins.
Antoine's
Antoine's is a Louisiana Creole cuisine restaurant located at 713 rue St. Louis (St. Louis Street) in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. It has the distinction of being the oldest family run restaurant in the United States, having been established in 1840 by Antoine Alciatore. A New Orleans institution, it is notable for being the "inventor" of several famous dishes, such as Oysters Rockefeller, Pompano en Papillote, Eggs Sardou and Pigeonneaux Paradis.
Algiers Point
Algiers Point is a location on the Lower Mississippi River in New Orleans, Louisiana. In river pilotage, Algiers Point is simply one of the many points of land around which the river flows—albeit a significant one. Since the 1970s, the name Algiers Point has also referred to the neighborhood in the immediate vicinity of that point.
Capture of New Orleans
The capture of New Orleans (April 25 – May 1, 1862) during the American Civil War was an important event for the Union. Having fought past Forts Jackson and St. Philip, the Union was unopposed in its capture of the city itself, which was spared the destruction suffered by many other Southern cities. However, the controversial and confrontational administration of the city by its military governor caused lasting resentment.
Rawhide 2010
Rawhide 2010 is the name of the oldest gay bar in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. It is generally simply called "Rawhide", and is named "2010" due to the humorous notion that it will be in that year that the bar will officially need full remodeling. For the past ten odd years the bar has specifically catered to a gay male crowd interested in the leather fetish scene, S&M or those in the bear community.
Iron Rail Book Collective
Iron Rail Book Collective is an volunteer-run radical library and bookstore in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Iron Rail's main focus is as a lending library featuring a wide selection of books ranging from Anarchism and Socialism to Fiction to Gardening to Philosophy to name a few. The Iron Rail also sells records, zines, local CDs and some miscellany. Movie nights are held every Tuesday night at 8 PM, and free coffee is available during store hours.

The Hotel Maison de Ville is located in the French Quarter north of Jackson Square, in New Orleans, Louisiana. They consist of a historic hotel building (1800), a garden courtyard, and separate former slave quarters (1750s)—now cottages.

French Opera House
The French Opera House was an opera house in New Orleans. It was one of the city's landmarks from its opening in 1859 until it was destroyed by fire in 1919. It stood in the French Quarter at the uptown lake corner of Bourbon and Toulouse Streets, with the main entrance on Bourbon. Designed by James Gallier, Jr. , the hall was commissioned by Charles Boudousquie, then the director of the opera company, which had previously made its home in the Orleans Theater.
Louis Armstrong Park (New Orleans)
Louis Armstrong Park, formerly known as Beauregard Square, is a 32-acre park located in the Tremé neighborhood of New Orleans, Louisiana, just across Rampart Street from the French Quarter. It was designed by New Orleans architect Robin Riley. The park contains the New Orleans Municipal Auditorium, the Mahalia Jackson Theater of the Performing Arts, Congo Square, and part of the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park. The park was also home to the first New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
Decatur Street (New Orleans)
Decatur Street is a street in New Orleans, Louisiana. Named after Stephen Decatur, this street near the Mississippi River in the French Quarter was formerly known as "Levee Street" or "Rue de la Levée". The street starts at Canal Street (across Canal Street, the equivalent street is Magazine Street) running across the French Quarter roughly paralleling the Mississippi River, and comes to its terminus at St. Ferdinand Street in the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood.
Natchez (boat)
Natchez has been the name of several steamboats, and four naval vessels, each named after the city of Natchez, Mississippi or the Natchez people. The current one has been in operation since 1975. The previous Natchez were all operated in the nineteenth century, most by Captain Thomas P. Leathers. Each of the steamboats since Leathers' first had as its ensign a cotton bale between its stacks.
Woldenberg Park (New Orleans)
Woldenberg Park is a park in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was created in the late 1980s/early 1990s on land that had been old wharves and warehouses along the Mississippi River front in the upper French Quarter. It is named after philanthropist Malcolm Woldenberg (1896 - 1982) who helped fund the building of it. The upper end of the park is at Canal Street and the Aquarium of the Americas. It continues down river to connect with the riverfront "Moon Walk" across from Jackson Square.

Jackson Brewery
Jackson Brewery, commonly known as Jax Brewery by locals, is a building in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana, containing shops and restaurants and primarily frequented by tourists. Constructed in 1891, it originally was the central brewery for Jax Beer, and in the 1960s was the 10th-largest brewery in the country. But in the 1970s, the company owning the brewery went bankrupt, and in the 1980s the building was purchased and turned into space for shops and restaurants.
McDonogh 35 High School
McDonogh 35 College Preparatory High School, historically McDonogh No. 35 Senior High School, is a high school in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is a part of New Orleans Public Schools and it was named after John McDonogh. It was the first high school for African-American pupils in the State of Louisiana.
1850 House
The 1850 House is a historic house museum located in the Lower Pontalba Building along the side of Jackson Square in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. It is managed as part of the Louisiana State Museum and recreates the appearance of an apartment from the 1850s. It also houses the museum gift shop.
