The University of North Alabama (abbreviated UNA) is a coeducational university located in Florence, Alabama, and the state's oldest four-year public university. Occupying a 130-acre campus in a residential section of Florence, UNA is located within a four-city area that also includes Tuscumbia, Sheffield and Muscle Shoals. The first basketball game in the arena was a preseason NBA basketball game between the Boston Celtics and the Atlanta Hawks. It has also hosted high school basketball games as well. The Lions are a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II and compete within the Gulf South Conference (GSC). The university has a total of 12 varsity sports teams, six men's teams and six women's teams. They have earned numerous national titles competing in NCAA Division II's Gulf South Conference.
