It functioned as the seat of county government between 1870 and 1965 (when county governments were abolished) and is today a service centre for the central Kennebecasis River valley, as well as being a suburb of Saint John.

The Rothesay Railway Station is one of the oldest standing railway stations in Canada, built between 1858 and 1860. It is a National Historic Site of Canada located in Rothesay, New Brunswick. The building offers an example of the standard station design of its era with its wooden two storey configuration. It was erected during construction of the European and North American Railway which connected Saint John to Shediac, New Brunswick and which was completed in August 1860.

The Evandale Ferry, a cable ferry, carries Route 124 across the river from Kars on the east bank. After the American Revolution this community was named "Wordens" for New York Loyalist Jarvis Worden, a member of the Kings American Regiment in the American Revolution.

The Evandale Ferry is a cable ferry in the Canadian province of New Brunswick. The ferry carries New Brunswick Route 124 across the Saint John River, linking Kars on the east bank to Evandale on the west bank. The crossing is 0.5 kilometres in length, takes 5 minutes, and is free of tolls. The ferry carries up to 15 cars at a time, and operates 24 hours a day all year. It is operated by the New Brunswick Department of Transportation.

The Gondola Point Ferry is a cable ferry in the Canadian province of New Brunswick. The ferry crosses the Kennebecasis River, linking Gondola Point in Quispamsis on the southern bank, to Reeds Point on the Kingston Peninsula. The ferry carries New Brunswick Route 119. The crossing is 0.7 kilometres in length, takes 5 minutes, and is free of tolls. Two ferries operate on the crossing, each carrying up to 24 cars at a time.
