University of New Brunswick
The University of New Brunswick (UNB) is a non-denominational university located in New Brunswick. It is the oldest English language university in Canada and one of four schools that claim the title of oldest public university in North America. UNB was founded by a group of seven Loyalists who left the United States after the American Revolution. UNB has two main campuses: the original campus, founded in 1785 in Fredericton, and a smaller campus which opened in Saint John in 1964.
Aitken Centre
The Aitken Centre is located on the campus of the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Constructed in 1976, it is the home of the UNB Varsity Reds hockey and hosted UNB basketball games until the construction of the Richard J. Currie Center in 2011. The arena hosted the University Cup in 2003, 2004, 2011, and 2012. The Aitken Centre was also the venue for the 2006 CIS Women's basketball championships, and the 2007 and 2008 CIS Women's volleyball championships.
Princess Margaret Bridge
The Princess Margaret Bridge, sometimes called the Princess Margaret Rose Bridge or shortened to just PMB, is a two-lane highway bridge crossing the St. John River at Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. It is named after HM Queen Elizabeth II's sister HRH The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon. Constructed as a steel truss structure, the bridge measures 1,097 m in length and has a navigation clearance of 23 m in the centre.
Harrison House (Fredericton)
Harrison House is a university residence at the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. It was built in 1962 as part of the largest building program ever at UNB which included several other residences and faculty buildings. When it was built it was operated as an all male residence, but from September 1991 to present, it has been a co-ed residence on the UNB Fredericton campus. The mascot for Harrison is the Husky and our house colours consist of red, and black.
Fredericton Railway Bridge
The Fredericton Railway Bridge is a former railway bridge in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. It crosses the Saint John River from the east end of Fredericton's central business district on the west bank of the river to the former community of South Devon (amagalgamated into Fredericton since the late 1940s) on the east bank. Since 1997, it has been used as a pedestrian bridge and is part of the Sentier NB Trail system and also part of the Trans Canada Trail.
Christ Church Cathedral (Fredericton)
Christ Church Cathedral is the cathedral church of the Diocese of Fredericton. It is located in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Construction on the cathedral began in 1845. It was officially opened in 1853. The "Gothic Revival" style cathedral is modelled after St. Mary's Church, Snettisham, Norfolk.
Aitken House
Aitken House is a Canadian all-male residence, located on the University of New Brunswick's Fredericton campus. It was established in 1958 and has since been a prominent member of UNB's residence community. The house holds many traditions such as their Club Med beach party, their house dance to the song "Shout" by the Isley Brothers, and their house cheer. Aitken House is the only residence at UNB to have their own alumni association, and has recently.
Fort Nashwaak
Fort Nashwaak (also known as Fort Naxoat, Fort St. Joseph) was the capital of Acadia and is now a National Historic Site of Canada in present-day Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. Located strategically up river and close to the native village Fort Meductic for military purposes. The fort was built during King William's War following the defeat of the capital of Acadia at Port Royal.
