Denmark, Western Australia
Denmark is a coastal town in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, 423 kilometres south-south-east of the state capital of Perth. At the 2006 census, Denmark had a stable population of 2,732; however the population can be several times the base population during tourist seasons.
Greens Pool
Greens Pool is a beach on the south coast of Western Australia between Denmark and Walpole. This sheltered beach is part of William Bay National Park and has a sandy white beach ringed by large granite boulders that prevent the swell of the Southern Ocean reaching the shoreline. The beach has a car park, viewing platform and toilet facility with a reasonable steep sandy path down to the beach.
Shire of Denmark
The Shire of Denmark is a local government area in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, about 55 kilometres west of Albany and about 420 kilometres south-southeast of the state capital, Perth. The Shire covers an area of 1,860 square kilometres, and its seat of government is the town of Denmark.
Ocean Beach (Western Australia)
Ocean Beach is a tourist attraction located about 5 kilometres South of the town of Denmark in Western Australia. The beach is part of Ratcliffe Bay and is surrounded to the East by the Nullaki Peninsula and a smaller granite headland, Wilson Head, to the East. Wilson Inlet is contained by a semi-permanent sandbar that forms part of Ocean Beach although a bar channel often exists which moves seasonally along the beach.
Denmark River
The Denmark River is located in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The river rises near Pardelup and meanders in a southerly direction until it flows through Denmark into Wilson Inlet (along with the Hay River). The river was named after a physician Dr Alexander Denmark of the British Fleet by the rivers discoverer Dr Thomas Braidwood Wilson who explored the area in 1829 while his ship was being repaired in Albany.
Wilson Inlet
Wilson Inlet is an inlet located in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The inlet receives water from the two main rivers: the Denmark River and the Hay River and some smaller rivers and streams such as the Sleeman River, Little River and Cuppup Creek. It is located 2 kilometres South East of the town of Denmark. The inlet is a wave dominated estuary with an opening mouth that has a width of 100 metres with a bar blocking it from late January to August.
Elephant Rocks (Western Australia)
Elephant Rocks is a sheltered beach in Western Australia, a few hundred metres east of Greens Pool. It is located about 15 km west from Denmark, in William Bay National Park. Its name is derived from a series of exposed rocks, which from several angles resembles a herd of elephants.
Denmark High School (Denmark, Australia)
Denmark High School is a comprehensive public high school located in the Denmark, a regional centre 400 kilometres south-southeast of Perth, Western Australia. The school was established in 2000 and caters for students from Year 8 to Year 12. It occupies an area of 19 hectares and is bordered to the west by the Denmark River and to the south by the South Coast Highway.
