Great Southern (Western Australia)
The Great Southern region is one of the nine regions of Western Australia. It is a section of the larger South Coast of Western Australia and neighbouring agricultural regions. It officially comprises the local government areas of Albany, Broomehill-Tambellup, Cranbrook, Denmark, Gnowangerup, Jerramungup, Katanning, Kent, Kojonup, Plantagenet and Woodanilling. The Great Southern has an area of 39,007 square kilometres and a population of about 54,000.
Bow River (Western Australia)
The Bow River is a river in the great southern region of Western Australia, not to be confused with Bow River in the Kimberley region of northern Western Australia. The river rises on the edge of the Frankland State Forest and flows in a southerly direction then discharges into the Irwin Inlet which opens to Foul Bay and the Southern Ocean. Bow River is a fresh water river with potential to be used as a water source in the area.
Kent River
The Kent River is a river in the Great Southern of Western Australia. The headwaters of the river rise near Tenterden. The river flows in a south-westerly direction, crosses the Muirs Highway east of Rocky Gully, flows through Mount Roe-Mount Lindesay National Park, crosses the South Coast Highway near Kenton, flows through the Owingup Nature Reserve swampland and finally discharges into the eastern side of Irwin Inlet. There are two tributaries to the Kent; Styx River and Nile Creek.
Irwin Inlet
Irwin Inlet is an inlet in the located on the Great Southern region of Western Australia. The inlet receives water from two main sources; Bow River of the North West and Kent River to the North East. The inlet itself discharges into the Southern Ocean via Foul Bay. The inlet is approximately 20 kilometres East of Walpole and 30 kilometres West of Denmark. The South Coast Highway is found about 3 kilometres North of the inlet.
Great Southern Wine Region
The Great Southern Wine Region in Western Australia's South West is Australia's largest wine region a rectangle 200 kilometres from east to west and over 100 kilometres from north to south. It has five nominated subregions for wine, the Porongurups, Mount Barker, Albany, Denmark and Frankland River under the Geographical indications legislation as determined by the Australian Wine and Brandy Corporation.
Bow Bridge, Western Australia
Bow Bridge is a small town in the Great Southern of Western Australia. It is located between Denmark and Walpole on the South Coast Highway. It also situated on the Bow River. Farms were established in the area prior to 1917. The townsite now consists primarily of the roadhouse that overlooks the bridge. The roadhouse was established prior to 1960 and operates as a fuel station, post office, grocery store and cafe.
