Memphis, Tennessee

Memphis is a city in the southwestern corner of the U.S. state of Tennessee, and the county seat of Shelby County. The city is located on the 4th Chickasaw Bluff, south of the confluence of the Wolf and Mississippi rivers. Memphis had a population of 672,277 in 2011 making it the largest city in the state of Tennessee, the largest city on the Mississippi River, the third largest in the Southeastern United States, and the 20th largest in the United States.

Orange Mound, Memphis

Orange Mound, a neighborhood in the southeastern section of Memphis, Tennessee, was the first African-American neighborhood in the United States to be built by African-Americans. Built on the grounds of the former Deaderick plantation, the Orange Mound subdivision was developed for African-Americans in the 1890s to provide affordable land and residences for the less wealthy. Drugs and crime infected the neighborhood in the 1980s and 1990s.

Roman Catholic Diocese of Memphis

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Memphis (Latin: Dioecesis Memphitana in Tennesia) is a Roman Catholic diocese in Tennessee. It was founded on June 20, 1970, when Pope Paul VI removed the counties in the state west of the Tennessee River from the Diocese of Nashville, which, prior to that time, encompassed the entire state. The diocese is broken into two deaneries, the Memphis Deanery comprising Shelby County and the Jackson Deanery which encompassed the other 20 counties in the diocese.

The City of Memphis is located on the eastern bank of the Mississippi River in the southwest corner of the U.S. state of Tennessee. It is the regional hub for a tri-state area of Arkansas, Mississippi and Tennessee. Shelby County is located over four natural aquifers, one of which is recognized as the "Memphis sand aquifer" or simply as the "Memphis aquifer. " This particular water source is stated to contain more than 100 trillion gallons (380 km³) of water.

Oakville, Tennessee

Oakville, Tennessee was a community in Tennessee located just west of the current site of the Memphis International Airport. It was centered along the Route of US 78 (Lamar Avenue) just a little northeast of the intersection with Getwell Road. As of 1950 it had a population of 2,000. As of 1958 Nonconnah Creek just to the north of Oakville was very close to being the southern boundary of Memphis. Oakville was located along the SLSF railway, about five miles north-east of Capleville, Tennessee.
