Geography of Mauritius
Grand Port District
Grand Port is a district of Mauritius, situated in the east of the island. The name means large port in French. The district has an area of 260.3 km and the population estimate was at 115,546 as of 31 December 2010.
Mahébourg

Battle of Grand Port
The Battle of Grand Port was a naval battle between squadrons of frigates from the French Navy and the British Royal Navy. The battle was fought during 20–27 August 1810 over possession of the harbour of Grand Port on Isle de France during the Napoleonic Wars. The British squadron of four frigates sought to blockade the port to prevent its use by the French through the capture of the fortified Île de la Passe at its entrance.
Curepipe Botanic Gardens
Curepipe Botanic Gardens in Curepipe, is the second largest botanical garden in Mauritius created in 1870, in which the initial goal was to receive several varieties of plants that could not get acclimatized in the less temperate regions of the island. Although smaller than the one of Pamplemousses it houses the rarest palm tree of the world, the unique specimen of Hyophorbe amaricaulis.
Mare aux Vacoas
Mare aux Vacoas is the largest reservoir in Mauritius. It is located in Plaines Wilhems, in the southwest of the island, to the south of the town of Curepipe. It has a capacity of 25.89 Mm and provide water to the upper Plaines Wilhems and to Moka.

Rivière des Créoles is a river in southeastern Mauritius. It flows southeast for 13 kilometres, reaching the Indian Ocean close to the city of Mahébourg.
Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Medical College
Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Medical College (SSRMC) (created 1996) is the first medical college established by the Indian Ocean Medical Institute Trust (IOMIT) in Mauritius in the memory of the 'father of the nation', late Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam. Mr. R.P.N. Singh, an educationist and social planner from India, is the Founder Chairman and Managing Trustee of the Trust. The courses offered by the medical college are: MBBS BDS The BDS course is closed now.
Grand River, Mauritius
Grand River South East (GRSE) is a historic village in the southeast of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean. It was named Groote River (Great River) by the Dutch. In the 17th century, GRSE was used for stocking and shipping ebony wood under the Dutch Occupation. The inhabitants of Grand River South East live mostly from fishing. The village has about 1500 households. It also has an active small planters community.

The Mare aux Songes swamp is a lagerstätte located close to the sea in south eastern Mauritius. Many subfossils of recently extinct animals have accumulated in the swamp, which was once a lake, and the first subfossil remains of Dodos were found there.
