Big Cove YMCA Camp
Big Cove YMCA Camp was founded in 1889. Big Cove is located north of Sutherland's River, Pictou County, Nova Scotia. Started as a residential camp for children from the Pictou YMCA, Big Cove is the longest running and oldest residential camp in North America. Big Cove is run from the community YMCA in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It was founded on the site of an old farm, the remnants of which can still be seen.
Melmerby Beach Provincial Park
Melmerby Beach Provincial Park is a provincial park in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. It is located on the province's North Shore fronting the Northumberland Strait approximately 10 km northeast of New Glasgow. The sand barrier beach is approximately 2 km in length and connects Kings Head with Roy Island. The provincial park was established on 26 July 1977. The park takes its name from the sailing barque Melmerby which was wrecked at the beach in 1890 with considerable loss of life.
