The old Canadian National rail yard in Edmonton was once the centre of economic activity in that city. Its redevelopment has fundamentally altered the appearance of the city. MacEwan (ETS)
MacEwan Station is a future LRT station on the planned line to NAIT of the Edmonton LRT system. The station is expected to be in service by April 2014 and will be located between 103 Street and 104 Street near 105 Avenue, and immediately across 105 Street from the MacEwan University City Centre Campus. Construction on the first phase of the project that will link the station with Churchill Station began in the fall of 2009 with completion set for 2014.
Kingsway/Royal Alex (ETS)
Kingsway/Royal Alex Station is a future LRT station on the planned line to NAIT of the Edmonton LRT system. The station will be located adjacent to the Royal Alexandra Hospital on the north side of Kingsway Avenue. The current Kingsway transit centre will be relocated and built next to the station. Preliminary engineering of the line was completed in July 2009 and construction of the phase from the MacEwan Station to NAIT began in the summer of 2011.
Edmonton Downtown arena
The Edmonton Downtown arena, or simply a new Edmonton arena, is the name being used for a new multi-use indoor arena in Edmonton, Alberta, that is currently in the planning stages. It will mainly be used for ice hockey and other indoor sports, as well as music concerts. The planned opening date is still unknown, and the arena will have a capacity of 18,500 spectators. Once completed, it will replace Rexall Place as the home of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers.
