Mérida cable car
The Mérida Cable Car (Spanish: Teleférico de Mérida) was the world's highest cable car. Its base is located in the Venezuelan city of Mérida at an altitude of 1,640 metres, and its terminus is on Pico Espejo, at 4,765 metres . The whole system was opened to the public in 1960; it was closed indefinitely in 2008, with a declaration that it had reached the end of its service life and is being rebuilt. The Mérida cable car is the highest and largest cable car in the world.
University of the Andes (Venezuela)

Llano del Hato National Astronomical Observatory
The Llano del Hato National Astronomical Observatory (Observatorio Nacional de Llano del Hato) is an astronomical observatory in Venezuela. It is 3600 meters above sea level and is the country's main observatory. It is situated above the village of Llano del Hato in the Venezuelan Andes, not far from Apartaderos which lies about 50 kilometers north-east of Mérida, Mérida State. This facility is the closest major optical observatory to the equator lying at 8 degrees and 47.51 minutes north.
Cordillera de Mérida
The Cordillera de Mérida is a series of mountain ranges, or massif, in northwestern Venezuela. The Cordillera de Mérida is a northeastern extension of the Andes Mountains. The ranges run southwest–northeast between the Venezuelan–Colombian border and the Venezuelan coastal range. The Táchira depression separates the Cordillera de Mérida from the Cordillera Oriental, which forms the Colombia–Venezuela border.
Estadio Guillermo Soto Rosa
Estadio Guillermo Soto Rosa is a multi-use stadium in Mérida, Venezuela. It is currently used mostly for football matches and was the home stadium of Estudiantes de Mérida Fútbol Club until Estadio Metropolitano de Mérida opened in 2005. It currently hosts the home matches of the ULA football team. The stadium holds 14,000 spectators.
Pico Humboldt
Pico Humboldt is Venezuela's second highest peak, at 4,940 metres above sea level. It is located in the Sierra Nevada de Merida, in the Venezuelan Andes of. The peak with its sister peak Pico Bonpland, and the surrounding páramos are protected by the Sierra Nevada National Park. It is named after the famous German explorer and naturalist Alexander von Humboldt.
Pico Pan de Azúcar
For other uses, see Pan de Azúcar The Pico Pan de Azúcar, at 4680 meters above sea level, is the ninth highest mountain of Venezuela, and the third highest of the Sierra de la Culata range in the Mérida State. Its name, which translates as "Bread of Sugar", is due to the sandy slopes of the mountain, which resembles "Pan dulce", a kind of bread sprinkled with sugar eaten in the country.
Libertador Municipality, Mérida
The Libertador Municipality is one of the 23 municipalities that makes up the Venezuelan state of Mérida and, according to a 2007 population estimate by the National Institute of Statistics of Venezuela, the municipality has a population of 232,011. The city of Mérida is the shire town of the Libertador Municipality. The municipality is one of a number in Venezuela named "Libertador Municipality", in honour of Venezuelan independence hero Simón Bolívar.
Pico Bonpland
Pico Bonpland is Venezuela's third highest peak, at 4,883 metres above sea level. It is located in the Sierra Nevada de Merida, in the Venezuelan Andes of. The peak with its sister peak Pico Humboldt, and the surrounding páramos are protected by the Sierra Nevada National Park. The name of the peak is in honor to Aimé Bonpland, although he never visited the Venezuelan Andes. The glaciers located in the Bonpland were the result from Merida glaciation in the Pleistocene.
Catatumbo lightning
The Catatumbo Lightning (Spanish Relámpago del Catatumbo) is an atmospheric phenomenon in Venezuela. It occurs strictly in an area located over the mouth of the Catatumbo River where it empties into Lake Maracaibo. The frequent, powerful flashes of lightning over this relatively small area are considered to be the world's largest single generator of tropospheric ozone, that is, ozone that does not replenish the stratospheric ozone layer.
Alberto Carnevalli Airport
Alberto Carnevalli Airport is an airport located 3 km southwest of downtown Mérida, Venezuela, at an elevation of 1,526 m MSL. Its runway is 1,630 m long. It is situated in a valley in the Andean mountains, surrounded by higher terrain in all quadrants. Night operations are prohibited. Commercial passenger service is currently suspended.

Mucurubá
Mucurubá is a community in Mérida state, Venezuela, in the foothills of the Cordillera Oriental. It is 2,407 m above sea level, about 32 kilometers from the city of Mérida. It is a parish within the Rangel Municipality. The name is derived from the words "muco" (place) and "ruba" (a tuber similar to potato) in the language spoken by the pre-Columbian inhabitants. The settlement was found in 1586 by Bartolomé Gil Naranjo.
Rangel (Venezuela)
Rangel is one of the 23 municipalities of the Venezuelan state of Mérida. Its capital is the town of Mucuchíes. It has four parishes: Cacute, La Toma, Mucurubá and San Rafael. The municipality is named after the national hero Colonel José Antonio Rangel (1788-1821), who played a prominent role in the Venezuelan War of Independence.

The Mucuchies (Venezuelan Sheepdog) is a dog breed from Venezuela. They have a short coat with feathering along their limbs. The coat color is either white or white with splashes of colors such as honey or tan, or shades of black and gray.
