The Salt Lake City Public Library system's main branch building is an architecturally unique structure in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is located at 210 East, 400 South, across from the Salt Lake City and County Building and Washington Square.
Geography of Salt Lake City
Salt Lake City is located in a large valley, the Salt Lake Valley, separated by the Wasatch Mountains to the east and the Oquirrh Mountains to the west. Salt Lake City is located at 40°45'17" North, 111°53'33" West (40.754700, -111.892622). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 285.9 km² (110.4 mi²). 282.5 km² (109.1 mi²) of it is land and 3.3 km² (1.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.17% water.
Joe Hill House
The Joe Hill House was a Catholic Worker Movement house of hospitality in Salt Lake City, Utah co-founded in 1961 by Ammon Hennacy and Mary Lathrop. Providing social services and housing to the homeless, the Joe Hill House operated until 1968. One of the prominent features of the Joe Hill House was an enormous twelve feet by fifteen foot mural of IWW songwriter Joe Hill and Jesus Christ, painted by Mary Lathrop.
Spring Mobile Ballpark
Spring Mobile Ballpark (formerly known as Franklin Quest Field, and later Franklin Covey Field) is a baseball park in Salt Lake City, Utah. It is primarily used for baseball, and is the home field of the Salt Lake Bees minor league baseball team and hosts several University of Utah baseball games each year. The stadium is located on the site of old Derks Field, Salt Lake City's former minor league ballpark.
Utah Supreme Court
The Utah Supreme Court is the supreme court of the state of Utah. It has final authority of interpretation of the Utah Constitution. The Utah Supreme Court is composed of five members: a chief justice, an associate chief justice, and three justices. All justices are appointed by the governor of Utah, with confirmation by the Utah Senate. The justices vote amongst themselves for the chief justice and associate chief justice, who each serve a term of four years.
Glendale, Salt Lake City
Glendale is a neighborhood on the West side of Salt Lake City, Utah. Glendale is situated South of the Rose Park, Fair Park, and Poplar Grove neighborhoods. The neighborhood was originally developed as Glendale Gardens which is where Glendale Middle School derives its name. Mountain View Elementary (which is situated next to Glendale Middle School) was originally named Glendale Elementary. Glendale, and neighboring Poplar Grove, Fair Park, & Rose Park enjoy a vibrant multi ethnic environment.
Granite High School (Utah)
Granite High School was a public high school located at 3305 South 500 East in South Salt Lake, Utah. Granite opened in 1906. The first LDS seminary opened across the street from the school in 1912. In 2005-2006, the enrollment was 1250, but was reduced as the school transformed into an "academy" format. The academies within the school include the Young Parent program for teenage parents with children and the ESL program for new immigrants and refugees.
Granite School District
The Granite School District spreads across central Salt Lake County, Utah, serving West Valley City, Taylorsville, South Salt Lake, and Holladay; Kearns, Magna and Millcreek Township; and parts of West Jordan, Murray and Cottonwood Heights. About 67,000 students are enrolled in its programs ranging from kindergarten to twelfth grade. It operates 8 high schools, 16 junior high schools, 62 elementary schools, as well as several specialty schools.
Children's Miracle Network Hospitals
The Children's Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH) is an international non-profit organization that raises funds for children's hospitals, medical research and community awareness of children's health issues. The organization, founded in 1982 by the Osmond family and John Schneider, is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. To date, the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals claims to have raised over US$4 billion which is distributed directly to a network of 170 hospitals.
Summum Pyramid
The Summum Pyramid is a sanctuary and temple used by the organization of Summum for instruction in the Summum philosophy. It is located in Salt Lake City, Utah, and was built during 1977 to 1979. The pyramid is 40 feet long at the base, 26 feet high, and is oriented towards True North of the Earth. The structure also incorporates the Divine Proportion in its design.
South High School (Salt Lake City)
South High School was a high school in Salt Lake City, Utah, which operated from 1931 to 1988. The school was located on the southern end of Salt Lake City proper, at 1575 S. State Street. The school is now a campus of Salt Lake Community College.

The Salt Lake City Public Library hostage incident occurred on March 5, 1994 when Clifford Lynn Draper held several hostages on the second floor in the former main branch of the Salt Lake City Public Library, which now houses The Leonardo, a culture and arts center.
Columbus Center
One of South Salt Lake's most notable and unique buildings is the Columbus School Building (aka the Columbus Center) which currently serves as a community center. Located at 2531 South 400 East, the Columbus School building is not only a community landmark, but a vital gathering place as well. The grounds around the building resemble a plaza or garden type area landscaped with pathways, benches, statues, and various plants and trees.

Its name was originally changed in the 1940s to "Rainbow Rendezvous", before it settled in the 1950s to "Terrace Ballroom". The Leonardo (Salt Lake City)
The Leonardo is an art, science, and technology museum in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. It is housed in the former site of the main branch of the Salt Lake City Public Library. The museum opened on October 8, 2011. The mission of the Leonardo Museum (named after the artist and scientist Leonardo DaVinci) is to fuse science, technology and art in experiences that inspire creativity and innovation in young people and adults.
Derks Field
Derks Field was a baseball stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was the home field of the Salt Lake Bees, Salt Lake Gulls, and the Salt Lake City Trappers of the Pioneer Baseball League until Spring Mobile Ballpark opened on the same site in 1994. It also hosted the Salt Lake Sting of A-League. The stadium held 10,000 spectators and opened in 1947. It was named after Salt Lake Tribune sports editor, John C. Derks. It replaced Community Field that burned down.
Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts
The Chase Home Museum of Utah Folk Arts is operated by the Utah Division of Arts & Museums. It is the permanent home of the State Folk Arts Collection since 1987 and over 200,000 visitors have experience its free programs. It has become the place where traditional artists from Utah's ethnic, native, occupational and rural communities share their crafts, music, and dance with their own communities, their fellow Utahns, and with visitors from around the world.
