Joplin is a city in southern Jasper County and northern Newton County in the southwestern corner of the US state of Missouri. Joplin is the largest city in Jasper County, though it is not the county seat. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 50,150. The population at the 2011 Estimates places the city at 50,559, but with the recent annexation of Silver Creek, the population is now estimated at 51,186.

Joplin Public Library
The Joplin Public Library District was established in 1902 when the citizens of Joplin, Missouri voted for a 10 cent tax to operate a public library. A Carnegie Foundation grant of $40,000 paid for the construction of a library building, with the community's having raised money to provide operating and maintenance funds. The Carnegie Library was built at 9th Street and Wall Avenue and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places later in the 20th century.

Plaster Stadium) at 3950 Newman Road is a 7,000 seat football stadium for Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri The stadium opened in 1975 and cost $1.7 million. It claims to be the first state college stadium in Missouri to use artificial turf. In 2003 its turf was replaced with Sprinturf. The previous turf in place in 1988 has been BaspoGrass-S.
