Bayou Manchac is an 18-mile-long bayou in southeast Louisiana. This bayou was once a very important waterway linking the Mississippi River (west end) to the Amite River (east end). Denham Springs Collegiate Institute

The Denham Springs Collegiate Institute, was founded by a group of Denham Springs residents in 1895. The structures were a large meeting hall and a smaller wooden framed building. It had a four year curriculum. The school was located on the site of the existing First Presbyterian Church on N. College Dr. In 1908, the board gave the school buildings and its property to the Denham Springs public school system. Shortly thereafter, a two-story brick building was erected on the same site.
