It is the educational and scientific centre of Siberia. It is located in the center of birch and pine forest on the shore of the Ob Sea, a man-made reservoir on the river Ob.
Siberian Federal District
Siberian Federal District (Russian: Сиби́рский федера́льный о́круг, Sibirsky federalny okrug) is one of the eight federal districts of Russia. Its population was 19,256,426 (72.0% urban) according to the 2010 Census, living on an area of 5,114,800 square kilometers . The entire federal district lies within the continent of Asia. The district was created by presidential decree on May 13, 2000 and covers around 30% of the total land area of Russia.
Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics
The Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics (BINP) is one of the major centres of advanced study of nuclear physics in Russia. It is located in the Siberian town Akademgorodok, on Academician Lavrentiev Avenue. The institute was founded by Gersh Itskovich Budker in 1959. Following his death in 1977, the institute was renamed in honour of Academician Budker.
Novosibirsk State University
Novosibirsk State University was founded in May 1959 in the USSR by Soviet academicians Mikhail Alekseevich Lavrentiev, Sergei Lvovich Sobolev and Sergey Alekseyevich Khristianovich in a program of establishing a Siberian Division of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Novosibirsk State University is one of the most famous universities in Russia, although is somewhat young. The university is located 20 kilometers from the city of Novosibirsk, a cultural and industrial center of Siberia.

The State Research Center of Virology and Biotechnology VECTOR, also known as the Vector Institute, is a highly sophisticated biological research center in Koltsovo, Novosibirsk Oblast, Russia. It is roughly analogous to both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the US Army Chemical and Biological Defense Command. It has research facilities and capabilities for all levels of Biological Hazard, CDC Levels 1-4.
Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre
The Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre (the official title is the Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre is one the most important theatres in Novosibirsk and Siberia. It is located at the center of Novosibirsk at Lenin square. The building was completed in February 1944, and the first performance was held on 12 May 1945. As of 2012, it is the largest theatre in Russia, larger than the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.
Novosibirsk Globus Theatre
Globus (in Russian Новосибирский академический театр Глобус - novosibirskiy akademicheskiy teatr globus, or briefly globus) is a theatre in Novosibirsk city, Siberia, Russia. It was foundded in 1930 in Novosibirsk city and was the first stationary theatre. Formerly it was known as Young Spectator's theatre (Театр юного зрителя, teatr yunogo zritelya - abbreviated ТЮЗ), and was focused on youth and children. The current building of the theatre was built in 1984.
Berd River
Berd is a river in Russia, right arm of the Ob River. Flows from the western slopes of the Salair ridge, makes 30 km in Altai Krai territory and the rest in Novosibirsk Oblast. Flows into the Novosibirsk water reservoir, which submerged 40 km of the original Berd` river after construction. Length - 363 km (416 originally), water basin — 8,740 km.. Annual water expenditure - 45,8 cubic meters per second. Iceforming in first weeks of November, icebreaking in middle April.

Novosibirsk State Medical Academy
Novosibirsk State Medical Academy (NSMA) (Russian: Новосибирский государственный медицинский университет, НГМУ) - a medical academy in Novosibirsk, Russia for training qualified doctors. It was organized in 1935 when the medical faculty was opened. Until 1999 it was known as the Novosibirsk medical institute. From 2005 it is the Novosibirsk medical academy. From 1996 to 2007 the institute was headed by prof. A. V. Efremov. The academy's rector from February 21, 2008 is prof. Marinkin I.O.
St. Nicholas Orphanage
St. Nicholas Orphanage is the only Catholic orphanage in Siberia and the only non-state orphanage in this region of Russia. It was founded in Novosibirsk in 1996 by "Caritas" charity with the financial support of several international institutions. Today St. Nicholas accommodates 40 children (boys and girls) ages 3-17. It employs 37 people, including six religious sisters of the Roman Catholic congregation of the Sisters of Saint Elizabeth.
Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, Novosibirsk
St. Alexander Nevsky's Cathedral is the Orthodox Cathedral in Novosibirsk, Russia. It is one of the first stone constructions in Novonikolayevsk (former name of Novosibirsk). The church was built in Neo-Byzantine architectural style in 1896–1899. The building design was influenced by the design of Church of Our Lady the Merciful in St. Petersburg built a few years earlier. It was opened and consecrated on December 29, 1899. In 1915 it became a cathedral.
Silicon Taiga
Silicon Taiga is a nickname for Akademgorodok, a Russian research and development center that is located near Novosibirsk. The nickname is a reference to the Silicon Valley, a renowned IT region found in Northern California. The term was first introduced to the Western press by Newsweek magazine in 1999.

Monument to the Heroes of the Revolution
This is a memorial located in the very center of Novosibirsk. Originally, it was a place where 104 fighters for the Soviet Revolution were buried in a common grave on January 22, 1920. A monument was erected and officially opened on November 7, 1922. Then in 1957, the remains of a few famous heroes of the Soviet Revolution were moved from the other city cemeteries and buried in the individual graves with bust sculptures.
