Higashiokitama District, Yamagata is a district located in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. As of 2003, the district has an estimated population of 45,338 and a density of 130.85 persons per km². The total area is 346.50 km².
Akayu, Nan'yō
Akayu, Nan'yō is a district in the city of Nanyo, Yamagata, Japan. Akayu is most famous for Akayu Onsen (赤湯温泉), a series of ryokan famed for their natural hot-springs which are believed to have medicinal properties. The town's name, which is literally translated as "red hot water", derives from a story in 1093. It is said that the feudal chief of Tohoku, Minamoto no Yoshitsuna took a wounded soldier to a hot spring bath. His blood immediately turned the water red and the wound closed.

Miyauchi, Nan'yō is a district in Nanyo, Yamagata, Japan. The former town of Miyauchi merged with Akayu and Wago village in 1967 to form the city of Nanyo. The two kanji characters that form the name Miyauchi literally mean "shinto shrine" and "inside". The shinto Kumano-taisha Shrine is one of the three great Kumano Shrines in Japan, whose origins date back to the 9th century.
