Siege of Hasedō
The siege of Hasedō was one of a series of battles fought in the far north of Japan's main island of Honshū contemporaneous with the famous and decisive campaigns between Tokugawa Ieyasu and Ishida Mitsunari further south. Over the course of the year 1600, Naoe Kanetsugu, a general loyal to Ishida Mitsunari, would lead a campaign in Tōhoku, which included the siege of Hasedō castle, near Yamagata, which was his ultimate goal.
Zaō Onsen
is a famous hot spring area on Mount Zaō in the northern part of Honshū, the main island of Japan. Records date back as far as 110 AD. A wounded warrior is said to have drawn an arrow out of his body and cleaned the wound at a spring only to find that the injury healed miraculously quickly and well. The sulfur springs of Zaō Onsen smell of rotten eggs, which only connoisseurs know to appreciate, and which saves Zaō from being overrun by tourists.
Yamagata University
is a national university located in the Japanese cities of Yamagata, Yonezawa and Tsuruoka in Yamagata Prefecture. The university was established in 1949 but its origin can be traced back to the Yamagata Normal School, a public teacher-training institution, founded in 1878 in Yamagata City.

Kaminoyama Castle
, also known as Tsukioka Castle, is a hirayamashiro (a castle located on a hill surrounded by plains) located in Kaminoyama, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. The castle was built in 1535 by Buei Yoshitada of the Mogami Clan to defend their southern border. It gained importance during the struggles between Lord Mogami and Date Masamune. It later came under control of the Toki Clan, though the castle was torn down when they moved to another area in 1692.
