Battle of Callann
The Battle of Callann was fought in August 1261 between the Normans, under John FitzGerald, and the Gaelic forces of Fínghin Mac Carthaigh, King of Desmond, ancestor of the MacCarthy Reagh dynasty. It took place in the townland of Callan or Collon near modern day Kilgarvan, County Kerry. MacCarthaigh was victorious.

Kilgarvan is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in County Kerry, Ireland. They play in the Intermediate Hurling Championship and Division 1 county league. Kilgarvan play football in Division 5 of the county league and in the Kenmare District Board championship and County Novice Championship.
