Fota Island

Fota Island or Foaty Island (Oileán Fhóta in Irish) is a small island in Cork Harbour, Ireland, just north of the larger island of Great Island. The name "Fota" is derived from the Irish "Fód te" meaning warm soil. Fota Island is host to Ireland's only wildlife park — as well as the historical Fota House with ornamental gardens and an 18-hole golf course owned by the "Fota Island Golf Club and Resort".

Great Island

Great Island (Oileán Mór an Barraigh in Irish) is the name of an island in Cork Harbour, just outside Cork city, at the mouth of the River Lee. The town of Cóbh is situated on the island, which is connected by bridge to Fota Island to the north, which in turn is connected by a causeway to the mainland. A railway line runs out through both islands to Cóbh. The island's name comes from the Irish, meaning "Great island of the Barrys", referring to a powerful Norman family who settled in the area.

Belvelly

Belvelly (Irish: Béal an Bhealaigh) is a small village on the northern end of the Great Island of Cork Harbour, about four miles north of the town of Cobh, County Cork, Ireland. Belvelly is situated at the shortest crossing point between the Great Island and the neighbouring Fota Island, which is in turn connected to the mainland near Carrigtwohill. The little village has two historic buildings, Belvelly Castle and the nearby Belvelly Martello Tower.
