Tijuca Forest
The Tijuca Forest is a mountainous hand-planted rainforest in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is the world's largest urban forest, covering some 32 km² (12.4 mi²). The forest shares its name with bairros or neighborhoods of Tijuca and Barra da Tijuca that contain its the entrances. Tijuca came from an obscure term from Tupi language which means marsh, and is a reference to the Tijuca lagoon in the contemporary Barra da Tijuca.
Rocinha
Rocinha (little farm) is the largest favela in Brazil, and is located in Rio's South Zone between the districts of São Conrado and Gávea. Rocinha is built on a steep hillside overlooking Rio de Janeiro, and is located about one kilometre from a nearby beach. Most of the favela is on a very steep hill, with many trees surrounding it. 69,356 (census 2010) people live in Rocinha, making it the most populous favela in Brazil.

Barra da Tijuca
Barra da Tijuca is a famous borough in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, located southwest of the city on the Atlantic Ocean. Barra is well known for its beaches, its uncountable lakes and rivers, and its highly Americanized lifestyle. Although representing only 4.7% of the city population and 13% of the total area of Rio de Janeiro, Barra is responsible for 30% of all tax collected in the city.

The Escola Americana do Rio de Janeiro (American School of Rio de Janeiro) is an English-medium international school located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in the hills surrounding the city. It is private, independent, coeducational day school which offers an educational program from nursery through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The school was founded in 1937. In 2005-6, enrollment was 776 students and there were 103 full-time and three part-time faculty members.
Gávea
Gávea is an affluent residential neighborhood located in the Southern Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Pedra da Gávea
Pedra da Gávea (literally Rock of the Topsail), is a monolith rising 842 meters above sea level at the highest point, located in Floresta da Tijuca in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro. It is the world's largest monolith on a coastline. The rock is composed of gneiss and granite, and due to its position, size and coastal location, as well as the lack of purchase for vegetation, has been heavily eroded by the elements.
Monte Makaya
Monte Makaya is a steel, looping roller coaster manufactured by Intamin and located at Terra Encantada in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. When it opened in 1998, it tied Dragon Khan's then-record with eight inversions; although it and Dragon Khan were made by different manufacturers and have very different layouts. Monte Makaya is located in the Terra Africana section at the back of Terra Encantada, at the park's far northwest corner.
Marapendi Club
The Marapendi Club in Rio de Janeiro was the tennis venue during the 2007 Pan American Games. The venue has also hosted several Davis Cup ties of the Brazil Davis Cup team. The tournament will be played on clay courts. The Club will also host Wheelchair Tennis matches during the Parapan American Games 2007.
São Conrado
São Conrado is an affluent neighborhood in the South Zone (Zona Sul) of the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. It is nestled in between the wealthy neighborhoods of Barra da Tijuca to the southwest and Leblon to the northeast. São Conrado is famous for its hang gliding (popular with locals and tourists alike), Fashion Mall which houses over 150 stores carrying national and international designers, and golf course.
Barra Shopping
Barra Shopping is a shopping mall in Brazil. It is located in the Barra da Tijuca neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. It opened on October 27, 1981. The Barra Shopping has 577 stores, is 120,000 m² in size, and is usually wrongly said to be "the biggest mall in Latin America", title which no longer holds since Venezuela has a 620,000 m². Even inside Brazil, the biggest mall as of 2009 is the Shopping Aricanduva in São Paulo
Vidigal (favela)
Vidigal is a neighbourhood in Rio de Janeiro, having a view of Ipanema Beach and Ilhas Cagarras. It is located in the South Zone of Rio, between Leblon and São Conrado neighborhoods. The favela is placed on the base of "Morro Dois Irmãos" (English: Two Brothers Hill), the slum is a place of hardship for the people that live there, they have to face the problems of drug wars and when fighting occurs in the slum they sometimes have to stay there for days without leaving.
Palace II
Palace II was a tower block built at Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. On February 22, 1998, parts of it collapsed, due to engineering error, killing eight people. Another part of its structure collapsed on February 27, 1998 and the remaining parts of the building were demolished on February 28, 1998. Before the building was demolished, researchers found empty piers and evidence of the usage of beach sand on the construction. All families had to move to hotels after the building’s fall.
HSBC Brazil Cup
The HSBC Brazil Cup is an international golf exhibition tournament, sanctioned by the LPGA Tour and first played in 2009. The tournament takes place over two days and 36 holes at the Itanhanga Golf Club in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The money earned does not count on the official LPGA money list, making the event an unofficial part of the LPGA Tour. The field for the inaugural event in January 2009 included only 15 players: 14 LPGA Tour members and a Brazilian amateur.
Terra Encantada
Terra Encantada was a park in Rio de Janeiro which designed to be one of the most modern amusement parks in Latin America. It was opened in 1998 after two delays in opening. There are 200 thousand square metres located at Avenida Ayrton Senna, 2800, Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro with a theme based on characters and festivals of Brazilian culture and its origins: indigenous, African and European.

CasaShopping is a shopping mall specialized in furniture's stores, interior design, home decoration in Brazil. It is located in the Barra da Tijuca neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro. It opened on September 28, 1984. CasaShopping has 120 stores, is 61,500 m² in size, it is the biggest Home Decoration Mall in Latin America.
Cidade da Música
The Cidade das Artes (City of Arts) is a cultural complex located in Barra da Tijuca in the Southwest Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which was originally planned to open in 2004. The formal inauguration is now anticipated for January of 2013, with the musical, "Rock in Rio". The project's R$515 million (approx. US$250 million) to the city of Rio caused much controversy was originally budgeted at R$86 million.
