Ada, Oklahoma
Ada is a city in and the county seat of Pontotoc County, Oklahoma. The population was 16,810 at the 2010 census. Ada is an Oklahoma Main Street City, an Oklahoma Certified City, a Tree City USA member, and a National Weather Service StormReady Community. The city was named after Ada Reed, the daughter of an early settler and was incorporated in 1901. Ada is home to East Central University.
Robert S. Kerr
Robert Samuel Kerr (September 11, 1896 – January 1, 1963) was an American businessman from Oklahoma. Kerr formed a petroleum company before turning to politics. He served as the 12th Governor of Oklahoma and was elected three times to the United States Senate. Kerr worked natural resources, and his legacy includes water projects that link the Arkansas River via the Gulf of Mexico.
East Central University
East Central University (ECU) is a four year public university in Ada, Oklahoma, located in the south central region of the state. The university also has courses available in McAlester, Shawnee, Ardmore, and Durant. The university began in 1909 as a normal school that taught high school and college classes. Some of its more famous alumni include former NFL player Mark Gastineau, past governors Robert S. Kerr and George Nigh, former U.S.
McSwain Theatre
The McSwain Theatre is a 560-seat theatre located in Ada, Oklahoma. The theatre was founded in 1920 by Foster McSwain, and served as a venue for silent films, vaudeville performances and film premieres. The theatre opened on March 30, 1920 and is housed in a three story, Spanish Mission style building. The first film to show at the McSwain was Suds starring Mary Pickford on July 19, 1920. In 1935, the theatre underwent its first renovations.
