Lafayette is a city in and the parish seat of Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, United States, on the Vermilion River. The population was 120,623 at the 2010 census. It is the fourth-largest incorporated city in the state, and is the larger principal city of the Lafayette–Acadiana combined statistical area, which, in 2011, had an estimated total population of 554,517. It was founded as Vermilionville in 1821 by a French-speaking Acadian named Jean Mouton.

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette, or UL Lafayette, is a coeducational, public, research university located in Lafayette, in the U.S. state of Louisiana. It has the largest enrollment within the nine-campus University of Louisiana System and has the second largest enrollment in Louisiana. M. L. Tigue Moore Field is a ballpark located in Lafayette, Louisiana. It was built in 1979 and has a capacity of 3,755 spectators. Lafayette Parish Correctional Center
The Lafayette Parish Correctional Center (LPCC) is the parish jail for Lafayette Parish located in downtown Lafayette in the US state of Louisiana. It is run by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, led by Sheriff Mike Neustrom. The jail serves the cities of Lafayette, Scott, Carencro, and Broussard, the town of Duson, and the unincorporated areas of Lafayette Parish. The LPCC is operated under the Corrections Division of the LPSO.
