Brighton is a city near Birmingham, Alabama, United States and located just east of Hueytown. At the 2010 census the population was 2,945. It is one of four cities in Jefferson County named after cities in Great Britain. Many of its early settlers were of English descent and named the town after the English tourist and resort city of Brighton which is located on the English Channel.

Hueytown, Alabama
Hueytown is a city in western Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. At the 2010 census the population was 16,105. It was the home of the legendary NASCAR Alabama Gang. It also made international headlines in 1992 with the unexplained "Hueytown Hum", a mysterious noise believed to be related to large ventilation fans for an underground coal mine in the area. The northern area of this city was damaged by an EF4 tornado on April 27, 2011.

Garywood Christian School was a Christian private school located in Hueytown, Alabama, in the western suburbs of Birmingham. It is affiliated with Garywood Assembly of God, a large Pentecostal church that houses the school's facilities. The school has currently suspended operations as a result of the parent church's action toward moving to a new location. The school was founded in 1985 by Garywood's pastor, Rev. John A. Loper Jr.

Miles Law School is a state accredited law school located in Birmingham, Alabama. It is independent of Miles College. Miles Law School was founded on August 26, 1974. Hopewell, Jefferson County, Alabama
Hopewell is an unincorporated community in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. Today it lies mostly within the corporate limits of the City of Bessemer, Alabama. The historic Sadler Cemetery lies nearby which contain the graves of many pioneer settlers of western Jefferson County. Hopewell lies at an elevation of 528 feet (161 m).
Dolomite, Alabama
Dolomite is an unincorporated community in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. Today much of the community's residential neighborhoods lie within the corporate limits of The City of Birmingham and much of its business district lie within the corporate limits of The City of Hueytown. The most notable landmark is The Bethlehem United Methodist Church which was established in 1818, before Alabama was admitted to the Union.
Pyne Mine
The Pyne Mine was a vertical shaft iron ore mine operated by the Woodward Iron Company and located near the Lacey's Chapel community outside Bessemer, Alabama in Shades Valley. It was, along with Woodward's Songo Mine, one of only two shaft mines dug in the Birmingham District, and the last ore mine to operate in the region, closing in 1971.
Hueytown High School
Hueytown High School is a public high school in Hueytown, Alabama. It is part of the Jefferson County Board of Education school system. Hueytown High was founded in 1922. It is currently a 5A school with an enrollment in 2009 of 1032 students in Grades 9-12. In the fall of 2010, its athletic programs were reclassified from 6A to the 5A level. The school returns to 6A competition in 2012 for at least a two-year period. The current principal is Dr. Gayle Gober.

Fairfield High Preparatory School is the only high school in the Fairfield City School System of Fairfield, Alabama. Fairfield High has approximately 874 students. The majority of the ethnicity ratio is African-American with 98%. Fairfield High, has all 5A Sports teams and a music program. In late February 2010, the Fairfield Lady Tiger basketball team won the 5-A State Championship at the Birmingham–Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC). The team was led by senior Jasmine Saxton.

Sloss Mines
The Sloss Mines are a group of mines in southwestern Jefferson County, Alabama. They were established by the Sloss Iron and Steel Company and its successor, the Sloss-Sheffield Iron and Steel Company, on the southern end of Red Mountain. The Sloss Iron and Steel Company itself was founded by James Sloss in 1881 as the Sloss Furnace Company. The Sloss Mines produced iron ore from 1882 until the 1960s.
