Rangoon bombing

The Rangoon bombing of October 9, 1983, was an assassination attempt against Chun Doo-hwan, the fifth President of South Korea, orchestrated by North Korea. Two of the bombers were captured, one of whom confessed to being a North Korean military officer.

Kandawgyi Lake

Kandawgyi Lake (literally "great royal lake", formerly Royal Lake), is one of two major lakes in Yangon, Burma (Myanmar). Located east of the Shwedagon Pagoda, the lake is artificial; water from Inya Lake is channelled through a series of pipes to Kandawgyi Lake. It was created to provide a clean water supply to the city during the British colonial administration. It is approximately 5 miles (8 km) in circumference, and has a depth of 20 to 45 inches (50 to 115 cms).

Yangon Zoological Gardens

The Yangon Zoological Gardens (Yangon Zoo) is the oldest and the second largest zoo in Myanmar. Located immediately north of downtown Yangon near Kandawgyi Lake, the 69.25-acre recreational park also includes a museum of natural history, an aquarium and an amusement park. People's Square and Park

The People's Square and Park is one of the major parks surrounding the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, Myanmar. Located west of the great pagoda to the former Pyithu Hluttaw (People's Parliament) complex, the 135.72 acre (54.92-hectare) park is bounded by Pyay Road to its west, U Wisara Road to its east, Dhammazedi Road to its north and Ahlone Road to its south. The area had been part of the palace grounds of Queen Shin Sawbu and later a golf course for some years during the colonial days.

Battle of Elephant Point

Karaweik

Karaweik or Karaweik Hall is a palace on the eastern shore of Kandawgyi Lake, Yangon, Burma. The barge was designed by Burmese architect U Ngwe Hlaing, who based it on the Pyigyimon royal barge. Construction began in June 1972 and it was finished in October 1974. The barge is a two-storied construction of concerete and stucco, reinforced by iron rods, with a pyatthat-topped roof, and two reception halls and a conference room. It houses a buffet restaurant today.

Nga Htat Gyi Pagoda

Nga Htat Gyi Pagoda also Nga Htat Gyi Buddha Temple is a Buddhist temple in Bahan Township, Yangon, Burma, located off Shwegondine Road, A distinct five-tiered pagoda, the original 20.5 feet high Buddha image was donated by Prince Minyedeippa in 1558. A Buddha, 45.5 feet on a pedestal, 30 feet (9.1m) high and 46 feet (13.9m) wide was erected at the temple in 1900.

Gymkhana Ground, Rangoon

The Gymkhana Ground was a cricket ground in Rangoon, Burma (today Yangon, Myanmar). The first recorded match held on the ground was in December 1912, when Rangoon Gymkhana played the Europeans. Two further matches were held in that month, with Upper Burma playing the Europeans, and Burma playing the Europeans. The next recorded match on the ground came in 1927 when Rangoon Gymkhana played its only first-class match against the touring Marylebone Cricket Club.
