1987 Ecuador earthquakes

The 1987 Ecuador earthquakes occurred at 1:54 GMT and 4:10 GMT on March 6, 1987 with magnitudes of 6.1 and 6.9 on the surface wave magnitude scale, respectively. The earthquakes were centered in Napo Province in northeast Ecuador; the epicenters were on the eastern slopes of the Andes, about 100 km ENE of Quito and 25 km north of Reventador Volcano. The earthquakes caused an estimated 1,000 deaths and US$1 billion in damage.
