Longreach, Queensland
Longreach is a town located in Central West Queensland, Australia and is approximately 700 kilometres from the coast, west of Rockhampton. The town is named after the "long reach" of the Thomson River on which it is situated. The town was gazetted in 1887, and the railway reached the town in 1892, causing the population to grow. It is the administrative centre of the Longreach Regional Council, which was established in 2008 as a merger of the former Longreach, Ilfracombe, and Isisford shires.
Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame
The Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame is a museum located in Longreach, Queensland, Australia, which pays tribute to pioneers of the Australian outback. The centre is also dedicated to Australian stockmen and Aborigines who have shown bravery and courage. The founder of the Hall of Fame was artist Hugh Sawrey, a well known painter and former stockman, who had the name registered in 1974, put up the initial funding, and enlisted supporters.
Qantas Founders Outback Museum
The Qantas Founders Outback Museum is a transport museum at Longreach, Queensland, Australia. The museum is home to a decommissioned Qantas Boeing 747-200, which can be observed by the general public. It also holds the airline's first jet, a Boeing 707-138. The Boeing 707 was restored at Southend Airport in England in mid 2006 and returned to Australia in December 2006. It was flown to Longreach on 10 June 2007.
ABC Western Queensland
ABC Western Queensland is an ABC Local Radio station based in Longreach broadcasting to the Central West, South West and Gulf regions of Queensland. It covers a wide area stretching as far as the towns of Charleville, Winton and Birdsville. The station began broadcasting as 4QL in 1947 on 690 AM, originally as a relay of the national program. Studios were then built and local programs began in 1952.
