Wheeling Island is the most densely populated island in the Ohio River. It lies within the city of Wheeling in Ohio County, West Virginia, in the United States. The 2000 census showed a resident population of 3,142 people on the island, which has a land area of 1.514 km² (374 acres). Neville Island, PA is larger (3.4km²) but has fewer people (1,232).
Bridgeport Bridge (Ohio River)
The Bridgeport Bridge also known as the Wheeling and Belmont bridge (per the dedication plaque affixed to the structure) was a bridge which once carried US 40 over the back channel of the Ohio River between Wheeling Island, West Virginia and Bridgeport, Ohio. Constructed in 1893, the Bridgeport Bridge was one type of crossing that could be 'ordered' from catalogs towards the end of the nineteenth century.
Fort Henry Bridge
The Fort Henry Bridge is a crossing of the Ohio River main channel in Wheeling, West Virginia. The tied-arch bridge carries two lanes in each direction of Interstate 70 (I-70), U.S. Route 40 (US 40), and US 250. The bridge opened after four years of construction work on September 8, 1955, costing $6.8 million, $1.8 million over budget. The bridge, along with the aging Wheeling Suspension Bridge, are the only two road links from Wheeling Island to downtown Wheeling.

Lewis Baker (politician)
Lewis Baker (November 11, 1832 – April 30, 1899) was the Democratic President of the West Virginia Senate from Ohio County and served from 1871 to 1872. Lewis Baker was born in Belmont County, Ohio, in 1832. In the 1850 US Federal Census, he is listed as an apprentice printer in Perry Township, Tuscarawas County, Ohio. He was admitted to practice law in Ohio. He declined the Democratic Party nomination to congress in his twenty fifth year.

Wheeling Island Stadium
Wheeling Island Stadium is a stadium located on Wheeling Island in Wheeling, West Virginia. The stadium seats 12,220 in two stands along either sidelines, the end zones are empty. Wheeling Island Stadium usually hosts High school football and soccer events but can host concerts, hosting REO Speedwagon most recently in 2009. The stadium is owned and operated by Wheeling Park High School. However, Central Catholic High School utilizes the facilities as their home field for football games.

Military Order of the Purple Heart Bridge
The Military Order of the Purple Heart Bridge, named after the Military Order of the Purple Heart, carries U.S. Route 40 and US 250 over the Ohio River back channel between Wheeling Island, West Virginia and Bridgeport, Ohio. Construction began in 1995 and finished in 1998. The bridge was built to replace the adjacent Bridgeport Bridge which had fallen into disrepair.
Siege of Fort Henry (1777)
The Siege of Fort Henry was an attack on American militiamen during the American Revolutionary War near the Virginia outpost known as Fort Henry by a mixed band of Indians in September 1777. The fort, named for Virginia Governor Patrick Henry, was at first defended by only a small number of militia, as rumors of the Indian attack had moved faster than the Indians, and a number of militia companies had left the fort. The American settlers were successful in repulsing the Indian attack.
Linsly School
The Linsly School, formerly known as the Linsly Military Institute, is a boarding and day school located in Wheeling, West Virginia. It was founded in 1814 by Noah Linsly and chartered by the State of Virginia in the same year The school is the oldest preparatory school west of the Alleghenies. It was originally known as the Lancastrian Academy. In 1861, the school adopted the dress and discipline of an all-boys military school.
Wheeling Tunnel
Twin tunnels form the Wheeling Tunnel in Wheeling, Ohio County, West Virginia. The tunnels are 0.27 miles long, cutting though Wheeling Hill, and each carries two lanes of Interstate 70 and U.S. Route 250. The tunnels originally took three years to construct, costing $6.9 million. Reconstruction of the tunnel, originally planned to take a total of 6 months, took over three years to complete between 2007 and 2010, at a cost of $13.7 million.
Siege of Fort Henry (1782)
The Siege of Fort Henry (September 11–13, 1782) was an assault on the American Fort Henry, a frontier fort on the western reaches of Virginia that is now the site of Wheeling, West Virginia. The attackers were a band of about 300 Native Americans, probably led by Simon Girty's brother George, and accompanied by a company of British provincial troops, and under the overall leadership of British Captain Pratt.
