Hazel Parker Playground

Hazel Parker Playground is a public park in Charleston, South Carolina named after Hazel V. Parker in 1977. Hazel Parker was the recreation supervisor at the playground starting in 1942. The playground was formerly known as the East Bay Playground. The park was formed during World War II when owners of the real estate gave the land as part of the war effort. The U.S. Navy was given access to the property on the condition that the Navy improve the property and make it suitable as a playground.

Demetre Park

Milton Peter Demetre Park is a municipal park in Charleston, South Carolina formerly known as Sunrise Park. Milton Demetre owned a spit of land which provided views across Charleston Harbor of the Battery. During the 1960s, Demetre filled his waterfront lot with dirt, a practice which was later outlawed. In 1970, the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers ordered Demetre to stop filling the waterfront property, and litigation resulted.
