Bridgeport is a borough in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, 18 miles (29 km) north of Philadelphia on the Schuylkill River. The old-time industries were paper, flour, cotton, and woolen mills, steel works, brickyards, etc. Bridgeport is six miles (10 km) east of Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. In 1777, during the American Revolutionary War, General George Washington and the Continental Army passed through Bridgeport on their way to their winter encampment in Valley Forge.

The Elmwood Park Zoo is a zoo in Norristown, Pennsylvania that houses a collection of over 300 animals representing 100 species. Opened on July 4, 1924, the 16-acre zoo includes the Andrew L. Lewis Wetlands Aviary, Wild Encounters building, Woodlands exhibit, and Grasslands exhibit. The zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and operated by the Norristown Zoological Society. The zoo also participates in a number of its species survival programs.

The bridge was first built in 1954 and has been replaced around the summer of 1999 along with the Diamond Run Viaduct in order to accommodate future travel needs. The bridge was improved with a $34.5 million budget. The bridge was widened as part of the general turnpike widening project that took place between the Norristown and Valley Forge exits.
