As of the 2010 United States Census, the township's population was 23,867, reflecting a decline of 1 person (0.0%) from the 23,868 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 2,216 (+10.2%) from the 21,652 counted in the 1990 Census.

The South Orange-Maplewood School District is a regional public school district, serving students from two communities in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The district enrolls students from the suburban communities of Maplewood and neighboring South Orange. As of the 2008-09 school year, the district's nine schools had an enrollment of 6,188 students and 485.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.8.

Maplewood Station is a New Jersey Transit station in Maplewood, New Jersey along the Morris and Essex (formerly Erie Lackawanna) rail line. It is the sole railroad station in Maplewood and is located at the heart of its shopping and business district.
WNYG
WNYG is a radio station licensed to serve the Long Island Area. It is currently silent. WNYG's daytime signal used to be heard in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties, the southern coast of Connecticut and the Jersey Shore. Post-sunset, WNYG drops down to 38 watts -- enough to cover Babylon, its city of license. The 1440 frequency signed on in 1958 as WBAB with 500 watts daytime only. It later became WNYG in 1976 after WBAB's companion FM station stopped simlcasting the 1440 signal.
