Willow Run

The Willow Run manufacturing plant, located between Ypsilanti and Belleville, Michigan, was constructed during World War II by Ford Motor Company for the mass production of the B-24 Liberator military aircraft. The date on the dedication plaque was June 16, 1941. After the war, ownership of the assembly plant passed to Kaiser Motors and then to Ford rival General Motors, which owned and operated part of the facility as Willow Run Transmission. In 2011, A.E.

Willow Run Transmission

Willow Run Transmission (also called Ypsilanti Transmission Operations, YTO) is a General Motors factory in Ypsilanti Township, Michigan. Opened in 1953, it produced Hydra-Matic automatic transmissions for use by General Motors and others. This factory was originally the Ford Willow Run facility, which built B-24 Liberator bombers during World War II. It was designed by Architect Albert Kahn. From 1947 to 1953 it built Kaiser and Frazer cars for the Kaiser-Frazer Corp.

Haab's Restaurant is located in downtown Ypsilanti, Michigan, at 18 W. Michigan Ave. The restaurant has a bar area with an 30 ft. African mahagony bar and overhead ceiling fans, and two dining rooms. The decor is 19th-century with a pressed tin ceiling and features Tiffany lamps and heirlooms from the Haab family. It has seating for 130. The menu entrées are mainly steaks, chops, fried chicken and seafood, with the London broil being the most popular menu item.

Highland Cemetery

Highland Cemetery in Ypsilanti, Michigan is a 100 acres cemetery founded in 1864. It was designed by Col. James Lewis Glenn in 1863. The cemetery is the site of the Starkweather Memorial Chapel which was commissioned by Mary Ann Starkweather to honor her husband. The chapel, an example of Richardsonian Romanesque style, was designed by George D. Mason and completed in 1889.
