Shields, Michigan
Shields is an unincorporated community in Thomas Township, Saginaw County in the U. S state of Michigan. It is also a census-designated place (CDP) for statistical purposes, but with no legal status as an incorporated municipality. The population of the CDP was 6,590 at the 2000 census. The community of Shields is located on M-46/Gratiot Road just west of the Tittabawasee River.

The Thumb is a region and a peninsula of Michigan, so named because the Lower Peninsula is shaped like a mitten. The Thumb is generally considered to be in the Mid-Michigan area of the state, located east of Flint/Tri-Cities region, and north of Southeast Michigan. The thumb is also branded as the Blue Water Area of Michigan.
