Island Farm
Island Farm was a Prisoner of War Camp (Camp 198) on the outskirts of the town of Bridgend, South Wales. It hosted a number of Axis prisoners, mainly German, and was the scene of the largest escape attempt by German POWs in Britain during World War II. Near the end of the war it became known as Special Camp XI. The list of former inmates includes many senior SS military leaders, who were awaiting extradition to the Nuremberg trials.

Schwyll Aquifer (pronounced 'Shwill') was historically known as 'the Great Spring of Glamorgan'. Until recently, Welsh Water used the resurgence at the Schwyll Spring near Ewenny as the main source of water for the Bridgend area. It now functions as a backup supply and as such has a number of associated source protection zones policed by the Environment Agency.
RAF Llandow
RAF Llandow was a Royal Air Force airfield situated near the village of Llandow, Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales, 15 miles west of Cardiff. It opened in 1940 and closed in 1957. It was while training at this airfield in 1941 that John Gillespie Magee, Jr. wrote his famous poem, "High Flight. " The major RAF unit based at Llandow throughout its existence was No. 38 Maintenance Unit (38 MU) which was tasked with the reception, storage and despatch of RAF aircraft.

The Ford Bridgend Engine Plant is a manufacturing facility of Ford of Europe, located in Bridgend, Wales in the United Kingdom. After signing an investment deal with the Welsh Development Agency, construction was started on the greenfield site in 1977. The 1,525,270 square feet plant began production in 1980, and specialises in producing petrol engines. Its first product was the CVH engine used in the then new third generation European Escort of that year.
